Henry Gotwalt Obituary

Henry E. Gotwalt, Jr. SPRING GROVE Henry E. "Hen" Gotwalt, Jr., 68, died suddenly at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Jane E. (Riley) Gotwalt. The couple were married on February 1, 1958, and enjoyed 47 wonderful years together. A memorial service to celebrate the life of "Hen" will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Spring Grove, with his former pastors, the Rev. Joseph W. Seitz and the Rev. Dr. Douglas E. Johnson, officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of fellowship and remembrance in the Church Assembly Room immediately following the service. "Hen" was born August 16, 1936, in York, a son of the late Henry E. Sr. and Erma B. (Nunn) Gotwalt. He retired in 2002 from Caterpillar after more than 25 years of employment. Prior to that time, he was employed for over 15 years at Glatfelter. Hen was a 1954 graduate of William Penn High School and furthered his technical education in York. He enjoyed playing his coronet with the White Rose Drum and Bugle Corps of York. Mr. Gotwalt was a dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove where he currently served on Church Council, was the former Church Sexton, served on the Property Committee, and was the Church Youth Director for 17 years. He served as a Scout Leader for Spring Grove Troop # 30 for many years. He was a member of the Viking Athletic Association and the Victory Athletic Association in York. "Hen" was an avid bowler in his earlier years. He was League Champion in the American Bowling Congress from 1954-1957, and was awarded several trophies for bowling 300 games. Henry was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a proud grandfather. In addition to his wife, Jane, "Pap" will be sadly missed by his four children and seven grandchildren: Mark L. Gotwalt and his wife, Jennifer of Reading; Michael H. Gotwalt and his wife, Vicky, and their children, Brandon, Tyler, and Chelesea, all of East Berlin; Matthew V. Gotwalt and Rich Lewis of Lancaster; and daughter, Wendy S. Wright and her husband, Brad, and their children, Joshua, Tyson, Nicholaus, and Alyshia-Marie, all of York. The family kindly requests contributions be made in memory of Henry to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Spring Grove, PA 17362. Memories may be shared at www.irwinfuneralhome.com

We were so sorry to hear about Henry and yet so glad we had seen your family again recently even though the reason for that opportunity was not what we would hope for, Nancy's celebration of life service. Hope your faith keeps you well and strong in your hour of sadness. John & Cindy

Wendy, Jane and family,

I am so sorry for your loss of Hen. He was a wonderful man who always had a smile on his face. I didn't know Hen very well, however my mother did. I wish I could be there with you to remember the life of an amazing human being.

"May his spirit live on in those he loved and in those he touched."
