Howard Parlett

Huntingdon - Howard Robert Parlett, 83, of Huntingdon, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018, in the Emergency Department of the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born September 29, 1935 at his family home in Stewartstown, E. Hopewell Township, he was a son of the late Roy Howard Parlett and Reba Elizabeth (Miller) Parlett. He was united in marriage to the former Barbara Arlene Whitsel on July 23, 1961, at the Stone Church of the Brethren, Huntingdon. Mrs. Parlett survives at their residence.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by four daughters, Linda Parlett of Huntingdon, Sandy Norris and her husband, Rob, of Huntingdon, Roberta "Betsy" Parlett and her fiancé, Jeff Williams, of Duncannon and Elizabeth "Liz" Beatty and her husband, Duane, of Huntingdon; and two grandchildren, Zachary Robert Norris and Amanda Lee Norris, both of Huntingdon. He is also survived by two brothers, Walter "John" Parlett and his wife, Peggy, of Tyler, TX and William "Bill" Parlett and his wife, Jane, of New Freedom; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was a member of the Frederick Sutton Memorial Lodge #57, Fraternal Order of Police; and a dedicated 37 year member of the Huntingdon Lions Club.

Mr. Parlett was a 1953 graduate of Kennard-Dale High School in York County, where he played football and baseball.

After high school, he served in the U.S. Army for two years 1955-57, stationed for much of that time in Manheim, Germany, with the 527th MP Prison Guard Company, attaining the rank of corporal.

In 1958, Mr. Parlett graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy at Hershey, and was stationed at Hollidaysburg, McConnellsburg, Rockview, Philipsburg and Huntingdon, all in Troop G. Cpl. Parlett retired from the PSP at Huntingdon on January 4, 1991, after 32 years of service.

Friends may call from 6:00-9:00 P.M. on Friday, January 4, 2019, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, and from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the Stone Church of the Brethren, 1623 Moore St., Huntingdon. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the church, with the Reverend Cindy Lattimer officiating. Committal with military honors accorded by the combined VFW/American Legion Honor and Color Guards will be in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township, Huntingdon.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in remembrance of Howard R. Parlett may be made to the Huntingdon Lions Club, P.O. Box 512, Huntingdon, PA 16652 or to the American Heart Association, Inc., P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.
