Jack Hale Obituary

RED LION Jack R. Hale, 75, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at his residence. He was the husband of Julia A. (Moore) Hale. Mr. and Mrs. Hale observed their 56th wedding anniversary on February 14, 2010. Mr. Hale was born in York, on April 10, 1935. He was a son of the late Raymond and Evelyn (Olewiler) Hale. Jack was a former paid fireman for the Victory Fire Company #2 in Spring Garden Township. He retired in 1995 after 34 years of service. Before being a paid fireman, he had been a volunteer fireman for the company since 1952. He was also a life member of the Victory Fire Company. Jack served in the U.S Navy Reserves from 1953 until 1961. He was a 1953 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and a member of Luther Memorial Church. He was a member and past president of the Mount Rose Lions Club and a Melvin Jones Fellow. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by three sons, Jack R. Hale, Jr. and his wife, Glenda of Red Lion, Jeffrey A. Hale and wife, Linda of York, and James A. Hale of York; two daughters, Judith A. Hotham of Red Lion, and Jane A. Klinedinst and her husband, Keith of York; 12 grandchildren; and a brother, Warren D. Hale and his wife, Nancy of York. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond A. Hale, Jr. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2010, at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, with the Rev. Brenda M. Ritterpusch officiating. A private burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. A viewing will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Luther Memorial Church, 1907 Hollywood Drive, York, PA 17403; or VNA of Red Lion, 2 N. Charles St., Red Lion, PA 17356. www.etzweiler.com

I grew up in the Mt. Rose area when it truly WAS a neighborhood when Jack lived on Ogontz street. I knew Jack well & had a lot of respect for him. I went to school with his son Jack at Mt. Rose Elementary.
