James Olp Obituary

YORK James "Jim" Harrison Olp, Sr., 67, entered into God's eternal care on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at his home after a courageous six month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the loving husband of Frances (Gowland) LeGore Olp of York, with whom he celebrated 40 years of marriage on May 18, 2008. He also served as a deputy sheriff for York County and was an officer for the East Prospect Fish and Game. In addition, he was a bounty hunter and did work for the Secret Service. Jim retired from York County Prison as Captain after 20 years of service. Following retirement, he was employed with Dunbar Armored. Jim was an avid hunter who enjoyed camping and traveling. He also enjoyed woodworking, working with leather, and designing emu eggs. He was a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club and a member of the NRA. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his son, Troy L. Olp of Hanover; stepdaughter, Wanda J. LeGore of York; sister, Judith Olp Durbin of Hemet, Calif.; uncle, Dr. Samuel Conway and his wife, Irene of Hanover; six grandchildren, Jessica Olp of Seven Valleys, Eric Olp of York, Joy Olp of York, Samantha Olp of Seven Valleys, Tara Olp of Hanover, and Brittany Olp of Hanover; a stepgrandson, Kenneth Weaver of Hanover; and his faithful companion, Cloud. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Eric Olp, who died in December, 1968; and his great-grandson, Jeremy Olp. The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church at Freysville, 2595 Freysville Road, Red Lion, with Pastor Lewis Crouse officiating. There will be a viewing on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York Township. Fran,
It has been a long time since we last spoke. I want to pass on my deepest sympathy in Jim's passing. May your memories and love for him help ease your pain. Working with Jim and you at the prison brings back many good memories, all of which I will cherrish. May peace be with you knowing Jim is in the hands and arms of God.

God Bless,

Jim - You went too quickly, although at the end I know you were ready. I will always remember and treasure the brief times we had together here and in PA. So glad for both your sakes that Judy was able to be with you.

Fran and family,
Jim and I go back to the old 319 hotel. There are alot of memories stored of Jim and the things and thoughts that we shared. Now he is resting without the pain. But thoughts of him and memories of him will continue to live on. I wish all of you the best.

Jim,
I am so lost without you. You were the love of my life. I will never have you out of my mind, or life. I wish we could have had another 40 years together. Life was to short. I am looking forward to the day we can be together again. Remember to keep your arms open for me, I will come to the happy hunting grounds with you and we will spend eternity together. I am so happy you are out of pain and you will never have any more.
My heart has a big empty void, only time and family will help to fill.
MY love always.
Your loving wife forever,
Fran

My deepest sympathy to the extended family of Jim. I grew up and remember times in early years of playing in the field across the street from his home. Every time I came in contact with Jim...always a smile and conversation of the past. Keep all your fond memories close to your heart till you meet again GOD BLESS
