Mr. Shipman was a fine cotton pickin' gentleman. I remember fondly his occasional Geography Bee's. They were fun and I still recall much of what I learned.I'll bet you're enjoying the O's this season. Go O's!!!

One of my favorite teachers from KD. I was shocked and saddened by his loss...but, judging by the messages on this site, he apparently had a big impact on me and many other KD grads. Rest in peace and prayers to the Shipman family.

Mr. Shipman was tough but fair. In addition to learning a lot about other worlds and cultures - which I took to heart when I lived in France - he also taught me a learning lesson in how I answered on tests. I always put the correct answer first then often second guessed myself and erased putting the wrong answer. He gave me credit for the original correct answers. RIP and prayers to the family.

Dear Mrs. Shipman and Family,
Our family is heartbroken to hear of Mr. Shipman's passing. We have always had the utmost adoration for his knowledge and love of history. It was a gift he passed onto us and our children, as well. I also had the pleasure of working with him as a coach while he was the Athletic Director. I am so very glad he and I were able to have a lengthy phone conversation a while ago and catch up on each other's lives. He has left an imprint on all of us that he has touched, that was his job and he did it remarkably well.

Our sincere sympathies to the Shipman family. Jim was a colleague, a friend, a mentor, and a dedicated teacher. He was the Athletic Director when he still had to teach 5 classes and get an hour or so for what is now a full time job as an AD. He was the kind of person that made others want to teach.

My deepest condolences to the family. Mr. Shipman will always hold a special place in my heart. He was so very adept at bringing out the hidden treasures in his student's minds and hearts. Looking back I can see the wisdom, but at the time, I bashfully blossomed with confidence that resides with me still. Heaven will never welcome a sweeter teacher and earth will never lose a dearer soul. Class of '76

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Shipman. Though he was rather tenacious on the football field, off the field he was a pretty funny man.Who else remembers his "Geography Bees"? As a diehard O's fan, I wish he could have seen what they're doing. He was a fine "cotton pickin" man who will be missed
