Janet L. Melidick

YORK Janet L. Melidick, 84, died Monday, February 25, 2013, after a three month illness. Born in Shamokin, on December 2, 1928, she was the daughter of Joseph and Jane Lubnow Melidick. Janet lived in York for over 40 years. She first worked as an insurance agent for the Edward Wanke Agency in Shamokin and later for the Glatfelter Agency of York. She was a graduate of Coal Township High School, class of 1946. Janet was a former member of Salem United Church of Christ, Coal Township, and was formerly the Secretary-Treasurer of the church. Surviving are nieces and nephews, Bill and Geraldine Woland of Coal Township, Allen and Kathy Shiner of Pine Grove, Donald and Rose Lauer of Spotsylvania, Va., and Jane Melidick of Mt. Carmel; several great-nieces and nephews; and friend, Patricia Doak and husband, Foster of York. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Marion Woland, Nancy Shiner, Fern Lauer; her brother, Joseph Melidick; and nephew, Richard Lauer. There will be a viewing Friday, March 1, 2013, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Farrow Funeral Home, 240 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin. Graveside services will be held in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at a later date with the Rev. Jean Eckrod presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem United Church of Christ, 1300 W.
