Dear Susan, Elizabeth, and Ben,
I was a student and player of Coach Ruby when he was at Delone. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing.
I had a great respect for Coach's integrity and dedication. He was a man you could count on being there, as well as, a person who would tell it like it is. I remember having some conversations with him about selecting colleges and majors and his perspective was thought provoking and practical.
Please know that your husband/father had a positive influence on many young people and we appreciate your sharing him.
Sincerely,
Steve Lawrence

To the Family of Mr. Ruby,
So sorry to hear of Mr. Ruby's passing. I am a 1984 Graduate of York High and remember Mr. Ruby well. He was also my brother's football coach and well liked by everyone. I have moved from the city and now live in the Red Lion area and my son plays football for Red Lion. Last night we played York High and at the beginning of the game Red Lion had a moment of silence for Coach Ruby and it brought tears to my eyes just thinking about him. Needless to say York High won the football game (I am sure Coach Ruby was looking down on all of the players) I am always torn when Red Lion and York High play...who do I root for??? My son's team or York High...guess who I root for? Both teams...something I know that coach Ruby would be really proud to hear!!!
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Susan, Elizabeth & Benjamin,
My heartfelt condolences. Coach Ruby was one of the greatest men I have known in my life. I had the priviledge of playing under his and John Gastley's coaching earlier in his career at Delone. It's not surprising to see how many others who's lives he touched. I know how my fellow players at Delone feel about him. A tremendous legacy he leaves with all of us. Enjoy your reward in Paradise, Coach!

Dear Mrs Ruby and Family,
My heart goes out to your family during this difficult time. Coach Ruby was a wonderful influence to many York City Youth during his coaching years at York High. My son, Shawn, benefited from his push for education first, sports secondary. Coach Ruby was more than a coach to those who played for him. He will trully be missed and remains loved by all whom were so fortunated to be blessed by his company. God Bless and keep you all.

We have just return from a Rocky Mountain trip to this sad news. Jeff, Don and I were charter members of the "Flying Pigs Club". We could always make a production out of roasting a pig at school. Each day we met in Don's office to plan the day and cheer up Don. Jeff was a good friend and caring teacher. We discuss "yard" projects he was doing, how he was doing it and making sure he was on "solid ground". We supported each other programs and students.
Two years of retirement is too short. But now he is roaming God's sideline.

So many great memories. My husband played football for Coach Ruby at York High, and I had the pleasure of having him as a teacher. So many times over the years his name has come up in almost every football story, when we get together with OLD HIGH SCHOOL friends. The Stories just wouldn't be the same with out him. Thanks for the memories COACH RUBE!!!! LOVE, The Keiser Family

You all are in the thoughts and prayers of me and my family. You all have been wonderful neighbors and Jeff was great and very influential man in every aspect of life. I do not think there was a day I could take a trip down roselyn and not see him out in the yard or the garage doing something. Stay strong and keep your heads up, Coach Ruby is in a better place.

Dearest Mr Ruby, what can be said of a man who touched the youth he taught so deeply that his wisdom, humor and love of life will forever remain in the Health & PE classrooms. I personally know of four Health & PE educators from one graduating class whom he mentored from the teen years to adulthood. I can only imagine the number of former students who now find themselves remembering how the lessons in Health and PE are important life lessons and know that they will carry Mr Ruby's unique teaching style into thier classrooms. Sincere sympathy to those who have lost a wonderful, husband, father, friend, coach, teacher and mentor.

Jeff was a true friend, an outstanding educator, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a coach who taught respect, discipline, and pride in one's self. From Pudge Hefflefinger, a "hen weigh", a "ham cost", " ...egg hunt", “fish stretching”, to the money tree in the front yard, Jeff brought humor to nearly ever aspect of life. Although the personal loss of Jeff is more than I could have ever imagined, so many people realize that the world is a better place because Jeff made such a positive impact on it. Jeff, you “touched the future” and you touched our hearts. Good bye my good friend, you will be missed.

Loved Ones of Mr.Ruby,
I was very sad to hear about Mr. Ruby. He was my tennis coach, teacher, and role model during my high school years at Elizabethtown Area High School. During my senior year I was awarded the scholarship he sponsored for future Health and Physical Educators. Receiving the award was such an honor that I will always cherish. I can only hope that I will be half of the teacher and coach that Mr.Ruby was. My dearest thoughts and sympathies are with you and your family during this time of grief.
Sincerely,
Chantelle Chaudoin

Mrs. Ruby and Family, I'm so sorry for your loss. I got to know your husband and dad when I worked in the high school office at E-town. I was there for 17 years and retired the same year that Jeff did. He was a good teacher, not only in PE, but in teaching the students lessons of life - growing up as responsible human beings, respecting themselves and others. I'm sure his friends will miss him immensely, as will you and your family. I hope that soon all the good memories and happy times will replace the pain.

Sue, Betsy and Ben, my condolences and prayers upon your loss. Coach Ruby was a big part of my family after coaching with my father at Delone, and coaching my brother in football and me in wrestling. To the Ruby Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I played for Coach Ruby at Delone Catholic and will miss him. Coach Ruby, like all the great ones, got kids to believe in themselves and convinced them they were capable of doing more than they thought possible. He taught us much about football but even more about life. I will keep you all in my prayers.

We will continue keeping all of you in our prayers and you know Raymond and I will always be there for you when needed. Love to all of you. Raymond, June and family

I am truly sorry and stunned by your loss. I just saw Coach this summer for the first time in many years. I played for him at Delone Catholic on some very successful teams and under those circumstances had some of the best of times. Many of the other entries from other players listed here echo my sentiments of respect and admiration.

Dear Sue, Ben, Betsy and families,
What can be said about Jeff Ruby? He, Donna Lee and his folks were a part of my life and my brother George's life for the years we all lived on Monroe St. and even after college and distance separated us. (He and my brother remained best friends until Oct. 12.) Jeff had such a tremendous gift for making people happy, making them feel good about themselves, and as a teacher, Jeff set the bar high for his students, as any good teacher would do. I hope Jeff, Andy, Norma Jean and Donna Lee are catching up and getting in a good game of cards. I can almost hear their chatter and laughter. That, and all the 8mm movies my dad took while we were kids together, are my consolation. I will forever miss his smiles and big bear hugs. My deepest sympathy. Carolyn Anderson-Grecco

Dear Mrs. Ruby & Family,
I’m so sorry to read about your loss. Coach Ruby was instrumental in many of his player’s & student’s lives.
