Julio Enrique Toro, affectionately known as Don Julio or Papa Julio, passed away at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, on December 2, 2017 at the age of 87.
Julio is survived by his wife, Gloria Toro; children, Carmen M. Toro-Dunston of Harrisburg, Maria E. Toro of York, and Julio E. Toro Jr. of Tampa, FL; step-children, Lillian Freeland, Victor Corcino, Fernando Corcino and Brenda Corcino; niece, Maria del Carmen (Mara) Toro of Ponce, PR; nephews, Jose (Cheo) R. Toro of Ponce, PR and Sergio A. (Tony) Toro of Memphis, TN; grandson, Carlos Ferron of Kinzers; granddaughter, Malaysia Toro-Addison of York; and great-grandson Jaxon Ferron of Kinzers.
Julio was born in Penuelas, PR on August 12, 1930. He grew up in Ponce, PR and came to Harrisburg when he joined the Army and served during the Korean War. He worked at Bethlehem Steel and later retired from Dentsply. He lived a life full of jokes and pranks for which he was well known, loved traveling to Puerto Rico, visiting with friends and family, watching theYankees and playing dominoes.
Viewing and service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 309 S. George St. York, on Monday December 11. Viewing begins at 9 a.m. followed by Mass at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Jonathan P. Sawicki officiating. Interment will follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnut Hill Rd, York. A reception will be held after the interment at St. Mary's. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Julio's life. The John W. Keffer Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. is assisting the family.
Flowers or memorial contributions may be sent to St. Mary's Church and St. Jude's Hospital, one of Julio's favorite charities.

I can't believe it has been 5 years tomorrow that you have been. You are a great example of dedication and perseverance when life throws you a hard ball. You raised 3 children by yourself in the late 60s, hardly any fathers did that at that time. I miss you and love you Dad.

Julio was more then a father he was a friend that I could talk to about anything which I didn't have the opportunity with my biological father. god has bless me and roxie to have him and know the kind of man he was.his light shine on all of us brother sister.he was a master of turning a frown upside down.no matter what he kept going sharing his love making people smile.ill miss you dad may god give you peace.and please go make my dad smile too.love always Fernando and Roxie

Toro family,
I'm very sorry to hear of the passing of Julio. It was always nice seeing him and Gloria at the Adoration Chapel when I had the hour after them. Then later becoming their neighbor at St. Patrick. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.
