Keith Sattizahn Obituary

HARRISBURG Keith "Buddy" Sattizahn, 56, passed away quietly on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at his home with his devoted "family" - Beverly Frey, his companion, and his beloved dogs - at his side. He lost his two-month struggle with cancer. He was born in York, on November 11, 1958, to the late Clark E. Sattizahn and Doris Boxley. He graduated with honors from York Country Day School in 1976 where he was also very active in sports. Keith attended Dickinson College in Carlisle. Keith was a Nisbet Scholar, a member of an experimental program allowing students to design their own educational programs. Keith was very active in politics and public policy. While at Dickinson, Keith even sought a seat on the York Area School Board. He worked with the campus radio station, the Mermaid Players theatre group, and the Big/Little program, which matched Dickinson students with low-income children from the Carlisle area. After leaving Dickinson, Keith chose to stay in Carlisle. Later he worked for QVC and was an early product presenter for QVC with Mike Rowe. Keith eventually got his certification as a Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC) and was employed by Gaudenzia House. In the last few years, he administered a "sober house" in Colonial Park. He was a board member of Harrisburg PFLAG. Keith was also a very active volunteer, a board member, and later board chairman of "Loaves of Love", the Food Bank for folks with HIV/AIDS started 18 years ago at Harris Street Church. Keith was a member of Harris Street United Methodist Church and served as a church council member. Keith was a very gifted and accomplished pianist, a top-flight Philadelphia Eagles fan, and a friend to many. He is survived by his sister, Candance S. Gingerich; stepfather, Gary L. Gingerich; cousin, Rev. Adrian Boxley; one niece; and one nephew. A memorial service for Keith will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Harris Street United Methodist Church, 250 Harris St., Harrisburg, PA 17102-2446. Arrangements by Hetrick-Bitner Funeral Home.

Keith was a great friend and mentor that I only met a little over a year ago. Even though my friendship with him was brief, he made a world of difference in my life from that initial day he welcomed me to Colonial Park House. From the start, he provided me with support, love, and care in so many ways. It was like we were destined to meet and help each other in both our times of need. I felt so comfortable with Keith that he felt like an older and wiser brother that I never had. He will be painfully missed but the wisdom and love that he shared with me will live forever. God bless you Keith and I will always have you in my heart.

I only met Keith once (we spent hours talking) , but that was all it took to know what a good man he was. I really enjoyed speaking to him, and it was obvious that he was very intelligent and had a lot of facets to his colorful life. I felt like I new him forever, he was so friendly and easy to talk to.

Even thought I only met him once, it's obvious to me that the world has lost a very special man. We need more people like Keith. RIP, until we meet again.
