Kenneth Walker Obituary

YORK Kenneth Stewart Walker, 77, died suddenly on September 20, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Lersy Salamo Walker; his children, Kenneth Jr, Eric (Carol), Susan Walker, and Jennifer Carrozza (Dan); grandchildren, Laura, Schuyler, Kelsey, Daniel, Tierney, Lisa, A.J., and Declan; great-grandchildren, Michaela and Mariah; stepchildren, Monique Lambert and Rey Garcia; step grandchildren, Serina, Neela, and Lana. He is survived also by siblings, Ted (Helene), Barbara Walker LaRue, and Dennis (Mary); and many nieces and nephews. He was also husband to the late Elizabeth Coffman Walker. He was originally from Philadelphia, and graduated from Jules E. Mastbaum High School, Philadelphia, in 1952, where he was a standout football player and art student. After turning down both football and art scholarships, Ken was drafted into the Army and stationed in San Francisco. It was in the Army where he learned the printing trade. He went on to work in that field for over 40 years including a stint teaching printing at a high school in NJ. Ken was first and foremost a good husband and father. A hard worker, he had a zest for living that couldn't be matched. He was superman. A big, strong, healthy hero who stayed active and involved until the end. Everyone will miss his corny jokes and pranks. He was a true gentleman the likes of which we shall not see again. Services will be held at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 932 Church Road, York, on Saturday at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition can be made. National Ovarian Cancer Coalition P.O. Box 11809 Pleasanton, CA 94588 www.ovarian.org or to The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

To the Walker family:
Lersy, Kenny, Eric, Susan, and Jennifer, we have known your husband and father since 1969 in Willingboro. Glenn and I have so many, many, wonderful memories of Ken. We will never forget his beaming smile, the spiritual qualities, love for his family, and willing attitude to help anyone in need. We were blessed to have known him, and appreciated his self-sacrificing spirit he displayed as an Elder in our congregation. We loved him for those fine qualities, and look forward to the resurrection, when he'll be back with us. We're sorry we couldn't be there, but you are in our prayers.

Lersy and Jennifer, just want to express to you both and the rest of the family our sympathy for your loss of your husband and father. As much as the truth comforts us, the pain of the loss of a love one never goes away. Wanted you to know how we felt, if we don't see you at the memorial.

Ken,
I WILL truley miss your smile, and kind words. For helping me when I was younger and needed someone to talk to and being there at the hospital the night our dad passed away. You were always there. Thank You for your kindness, and caring heart. You will truley be missed.

Lersy, Kenny, Eric, Susan and Jenn words can not express my shock, sorrow and heart break for the loss of such a wonderful man. The Walker men are truly special, they just don’t make them like that any more. I know your dad and mine are together some place magical, where they serve cold beers and they are catching up and telling one another the worst jokes ever! What I wouldn’t give to see that. My love and prayers are with you, may God grant you peace.

Learsy, So sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. I had my sister from York help me find the obituary. She is the one your husband met at Turkey Hill to give my glasses to when I left them at her house (years ago!!!) She remembered him when she saw the picture. I know this is going to be so hard on you and your family. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless all of you at this sad time. Sincerely, Sandy Hanna (MidAtlantic Farm Credit)

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. We first met Ken when he came to our congregation with his wife Betty and daughter Jennifer. We have had many laughs and we even liked his corny jokes. We know Ken to be someone who was very caring and gave freely of himself to help others. Ken was actually quite good with his camera. He loved his family and Jehovah very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
