Lloyd Lerew Obituary

Lloyd E. Lerew
September 27, 1949 - April 10, 2017
Dillsburg
Lloyd E. Lerew, PhD, passed away at the age of 67 on April 10, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd M. Lerew and Kathryn Lerew of Dillsburg; and sister, Sandra Sileo of Reading.
Lloyd attended Michigan State University, obtaining his BS, MS, and PhD in Agricultural Engineering and ultimately became a faculty member. During this time he authored and co-authored numerous publications and research papers. Under the tutelage of F.W. Bakker-Arkema, Dr. Lerew was the principal programmer of the original Michigan State University Grain Dryer Computer Models which he continued to develop throughout his lifetime.
Lloyd eventually returned to Dillsburg to work at the family business, Lerew's Farm Market, of which he eventually became President. Lloyd also served as Chairman of the York County Solid Waste and Refuse Authority and worked to build the waste to energy incinerator located in York.
In his later years, Lloyd grew fond of the culinary arts and continuously honed his skills, winning copious awards from the Dillsburg Farmer's Fair, York Fair, and Pennsylvania State Farm Show. Those who have met Lloyd will find solace in knowing that he kept his inimitable and generous sense of humor through his final days.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Jane; and son, Ryan Lerew; stepdaughter, Tammy Wilkins of Richmond, VA; stepson, Terry Knaub of Dillsburg; four stepgrandchildren; and two sisters, Carol Owen of New Oxford, and Darlene Dwyer of Dillsburg
A memorial service will be held at Chestnut Grove United Methodist church in Dillsburg on May 13 at 10 .am..

I was very saddened to hear of Lloyd's passing. My condolences to the family. I have fond memories of being in 4-H Club with Lloyd. He was the first boy I ever danced with. I was his date to the senior prom. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Janie & family, I'm saddened to hear of Lloyd's illness & passing. He was a great friend & classmate in the NHS class of 1967. As we are currently planning our 50th reunion this Sept Lloyd will be missed. May you find comfort in knowing that he suffers no more & is at peace in God's Kingdom.
