Michael R. Gladfelter

YORK Michael R. Gladfelter, 56, of West Manchester Township, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Julie Ann (Altland) Gladfelter. Mr. and Mrs. Gladfelter observed their first wedding anniversary on January 19, 2009. Michael was born in York, on July 29, 1953, a son of the late Spurgeon R. Gladfelter and the late Doris (Smith) Gladfelter Slater. He was employed as a material handler for Kinsley Construction. He was also a former part-time employee of the Carlisle Avenue Giant. Mike was well known for his award winning country - style ribs. He was a member of New Creation Community Church of Dover. In his youth, Mike was very active with the Salvation Army. He was a 1971 graduate of the York County School of Technology. In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by a son, Michael R. Gladfelter, II of York; a grandson, Jordon Gladfelter; and two sisters, Cathy J. Putman and husband, John of York, and Gwen E. Bushko and husband, Greg of Canonsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis R. Gladfelter, and a sister, Gloria J. Hauck. A funeral service will be Monday, September 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Catherine Boileau. Burial will be in Salem Union Cemetery in Dover. A viewing will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
