Patricia "Pat" I. (Royer) Mellinger entered into rest after a lengthy illness on Thursday, March 3 at Misericordia Nursing Home in York at 8 p.m. at the age of 88. She was wife of the late Donald L. Mellinger, who entered into rest on Jan. 9, 2001.
Pat was born in Gettysburg on January 3, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Paul M. and Mary Theresa (Sterner) Royer.
She was a homemaker and a life member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dallastown.
Survivors Pat are six sons, Randall J. Mellinger and his wife Karen of York, Thomas A. Mellinger and his wife Margie of Red Lion, Brian V. Mellinger of Collinsville, Scott A. Mellinger of Windsor, Bruce L. Mellinger of Dallastown, and Larry S. Mellinger and his wife Pamela of Missoula, Mont.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Timothy A. Royer of Collinsville; two sisters, Marilyn T. Reisinger and Rose Marie Wagman, both of Dallastown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane M. Mellinger in 1953; a grandson, Matthew D. Mellinger, who entered into rest in 2010; and her two brothers, P. Richard Royer and C. Dean Royer.
A Viewing will be held Wednesday, March 9 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Service of Celebration for Pat will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Father John McCloskey, of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dallastown will officiate. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, "In Memory Of Patricia I. Mellinger", 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Pat was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother who loved spending time with and taking care of her family and she enjoyed playing cards with her sisters.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now; He set me free.
