Ralph S. Jones

Ralph S. 'Tiger' Jones, 86, formerly a longtime resident of York, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at 5:07 a.m. at Methodist Hospital in Peoria. He was the husband of N. Joan (Claywell) Jones; the late Margaret (Chapman) Jones; and the late Verna M. (Turpin) Jones. Born July 20, 1917 in Peoria, Ill, he was the son of the late Lester B. and Caroline (Mellor) Jones. He was a retired supervisor of work standards for Caterpillar, Inc. Mr. Jones was first employed in Peoria, Ill and later in York. He retired in 1979 with 43 years service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving on a destroyer escort in the Philippine Islands. He was a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Bartonville, Ill.; member of the Elks Lodge 20 in Peoria, Ill.; the Red Lion American Legion Post 543; and the York Pennsylvania Caterpillar Retirees Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Conni B. Jones of Emigsville and Kathy S. Jones of Red Lion; a step-son, Roland Wolgan of Kansas City, Mo.; five step-daughters, Michelle Bachler, Lesli Harms, Traci Wade and Donna Davidson all of Peoria, Ill. and Kristen Cook of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; a grandson, David L. Mintscheff of York; 13 stepgrandchildren; and two sisters, Sylvia Fromm of East Peoria, Ill. and Ethel Sutton of Peoria, Ill. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2004 at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market Street, York. The Rev. James S. Crawford, pastor of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Private burial will be held in Mt. Rose Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
