Ramon F. Dacheux

YORK Ramon F. "Dutch" Dacheux, 86, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He is the husband of Phyllis E. (Welsh) Dacheux of York. Mr. and Mrs. Dacheux celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on June 16, 2013. Born August 7, 1927, in York, he was the son of the late Francois and Jenny (Oberdick) Dacheux. Ramon was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving for over 30 years during WWII, Korean War, Vietnam and the Cuban Conflict. He was a Chief Machinist Mate and Chief Petty Officer. Following his retirement from the military, he owned and operated Dacheux's Garage on Druck Valley Road. He then bought Sitler's Store which was on the square in East Prospect. His most recent employment was with Schaad Detective Agency where Ramon was a guard for the York County Court House. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. In addition to his wife, Phyllis, he is survived by five sons, Frederick A. Dacheux of York, Philip K. and his wife Susan Dacheux of Lansdowne, William E. Dacheux of San Antonio, Texas, Damon L. and his wife Paula Dacheux of Camden, Alaska, and Michael Dacheux of York; two daughters, Susan E. and her husband Jeffrey Freedman of York and Jessica Dacheux of York; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eugenia Witmer of York. He was preceded in death by twin sons, Edgar E. Dacheux, formerly of York, and Harry E. Dacheux, formerly of Michigan; a son, Dr. Ramon F. Dacheux II, formerly of Alabama; and an infant daughter, Mary Emily Dacheux. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Janyce C. Jorgensen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
