Ruth C. (Kohler) Eline, 87, passed away July 19, 2016, at her home. She was the wife of the late James L. Eline. They were married at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, York, on August 28, 1948.
Born in York on June 23, 1929, she was the daughter of Clark E. and Erma F. Shannon Kohler.
She was the very proud mother of eight: Leonard G. (Lucia Ann Miller), of Davenport, Iowa; Richard L. (Terri Burson), of Red Lion; John C. (Janet Young), of Gettysburg; Christine M. (Gregory Flick), of York; William G. (Cynthia Shimko), of Latrobe; Mary F. (Darren Reed), of York; Joseph E. (Barbara Hoskin), of York; and Barbara E. (Scot Thomas), of York.
She is also survived by 18 grandchildren: James Eline, Christopher Eline, Andrew Eline, Daniel Eline, Lauren Eline Ackley, Erin Eline Aumen, Patrick Eline, Jennifer Flick Joshua, Brian Flick, Katlyn Flick, Tessa Eline, Drew Eline, Casey Reed Handy, Christina Reed, Chelsea Reed, Ellen Eline, Derek Thomas and Bradley Thomas; and 30 great-grandchildren: Leo, Elisabeth, Ryan, Shawn, Grace, Landon, James, Ashton, William, Molly, Abigail, Alexander, Zachary, Nicholas, Jacob, Cedric, Kaitlyn, Kylie, Cole, Tyler, Celia, Bobby, Emily, Ronnie, Riley, Luke, Emma, Collin, Nora and Viviana (on the way.)
In addition to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she is survived by three brothers: James P. Kohler, York; Joseph E. Kohler, York; and David M. Kohler and his wife Mary Jo (Mirasola), of York. She was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, W.G. 'Pete' Kohler and Ruth E. (Hess) Kohler, formerly of Chico, Calif. She is also survived by brother-in-law, J. Wayne Eline and his wife Mary Jane Holtzworth, of Great Barrington, Mass.; and numerous nieces and nephews, all beloved to her.
Mrs. Eline was a 1947 graduate of York Catholic High School and a longtime, devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in York. For years, she worked as the Food Service Manager of York Catholic High School, a cook for the Parish Rectory at St. Mary's and a was dedicated lector at St. Mary's. She enjoyed traveling and did so often with her husband in his retirement years. She was also a member of the 'Golden Nuggets' retirement group and following the death of her husband in 1995, enjoyed many adventures with her fellow members. She was an avid reader and loved history. But most of all, she loved visits with her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 321 S. George St., York, with her pastor, the Rev. Jonathan Sawicki as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church one hour prior to the Mass.
