Shirley Sparkman Obituary

YORK Shirley Jean Sparkman, 80, died peacefully at home on Au gust 15, 2007. She was the wife of the late Homer Allen Sparkman. Born in Oklahoma City, Okla., on April 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Tom Walter and Phyllis Isabelle (Forgey) Garrett. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints for 43 years, she enjoyed serving in the youth programs, singing in the choir, and doing research in the genealogy library. She also enjoyed performing in the local theater productions, where she held lead roles in "Promised Valley" and "Guys and Dolls". She loved the farm life, where she raised horses, cattle, honeybees, and other livestock. She was the beloved mother of six children; 22 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend services at 10 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2007, at the Church of Latterday Saints, 2100 Hollywood Drive, York. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. The Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, is in charge of arrangements. "Gari" and I worked together for a number of years in various organizations in the Church. She was an avid teacher and enjoyed her students both in Sunday School and other auxilliaries. God be with all of you during this sad time but we know that she is now free of the trials of this life and in a realm of peace.
