Sylvia A. (Altland) Wilson, 94, died May 14, 2016 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late James R. Wilson.
Born December 16, 1921 in York, she was the daughter of the late Earl D. and Elizabeth (Deardorff) Altland.
Sylvia pursued her lifelong love of music, first becoming a trained soloist and later becoming a member of her church choir. Sylvia taught for 25 years at William Penn Senior High School. She retired from teaching in 1978. She was a graduate of West York High School, attended Indiana University of PA and graduated from Shippensburg University.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of York where she was a former deacon, choir member and Stephen Minister.
Sylvia is survived by her son, Daniel B. Wilson of York; a sister-in-law; and several cousins, all of York. Sylvia's brother, Philip J. Altland, also died on May 14 in York.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of York, 225 E. Market St., York, with her pastor, the Rev. Allison J. Beaulieu, officiating. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. A private burial will be held in Greenmount Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 225 East Market Street, York, PA 17403.
