William Kotchish Obituary

William J. "Bill" Kotchish YORK William J. "Bill" Kotchish, 77, died Thursday, November 3, 2005, at Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Rose (Lang) Kotchish, to whom he was married 55 years. Born December 10, 1927, in New Castle, he was the son of the late Michael and Regina "Jennie" (Fabian) Kotchish. Mr. Kotchish was a graduate of Youngstown State University and retired after many years as a district sales manager in the building material field. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Dallastown, where he served on the consistory and as a deacon and an elder. Mr. Kotchish was active in the Boy Scouts from the time of his youth as a Life Scout. He passed this interest on to his son and grandsons and the nearly 200 York County youths he guided to becoming Eagle Scouts. He was Committee Chairman for Post 1110 and was Eagle Advancement Chairman for the Indian Steps District. The Boy Scouts honored Mr. Kotchish with the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a Master Sergeant with the 3rd Armored Division during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Red Lion American Legion. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, John M., and his wife, Susan, of York Township; two grandsons, Christopher and his wife, Ashley, and Jonathan and his wife, Kelly, and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Ann, all of York Township; and a sister, Kay Flack, of New Castle. A brother, Don, of Salem, Va., preceded him in death. The service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2005, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 205 W. Main St., Dallastown, with his pastor, the Rev. Russell Clark, officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of services. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to York-Adams Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, 2139 White St., York, PA 17404; St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 205 W. Main St., Dallastown, PA 17313; or the American Prostate Society, Box 870, Hanover, MD 21076.
