William Schmalzer Obituary

William J. Schmalzer, III

Parkton, MD - On June 09, 2021, William J. Schmalzer III, passed away peacefully at his home in Parkton, MD. Bill was the loving husband of almost 40 years to Linda (Davis) Schmalzer.

Mr. Schmalzer, as he was known, was a teacher for Baltimore County Schools for almost 30 years where he helped implement new science-focused teaching programs, and was a mentor to the students, many who eventually went onto work in the medical field. In addition to his teaching career, he was a lifetime member of the Maryland Line Volunteer Fire Company, was inducted into the Baltimore County Volunteer Fireman's Association Hall of Fame, was the former President of Hereford Volunteer Ambulance Association, volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician, and taught numerous adults and students CPR. During the summers, Bill was a seasonal ranger for the Department of Natural Resources. His love of service to his community also included his church family at St. John Evangelical Lutheran in New Freedom where, with his wife Linda, he co-founded the Lord's Lunch, a community kitchen run out of the church. Bill was known for his compassion for others and his sense of humor.

Beyond his love for his community, was his great love for his wife, Linda; his children, June Main (Melvin), William Joseph Schmalzer IV (Lisa Squezello), Mimi Ashbaugh (Chris), Mark Coulbourne (Jennifer Fitzgerald), and Kelly Coulbourne. Bill is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Angela, Christine, Lauren (Timothy), Jocelynn, Yva Marie (Eric), Nathan (fiancé, Christina Claypool), Jordan, and Ashley; and his dear great grandchildren, Brandon, Cameron, Luke, Noah, Dylan, Madisyn, Emily, Abigail, Jeremiah, Lillian, and Hunter; and his loving siblings, David Schmalzer (Alberta), and Paul Schmalzer (Laura). Bill was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by many friends, family, and community members.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 175 E. Main St. New Freedom, PA with Rev. George M. Schneider officiating.
