William Schwartz Obituary

William Schwartz
Gloucester, VA
William "Bill" Schwartz left his earthly home Sunday, April 24th, at the age of 73. Bill was born and raised in York County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mervin and Mildred (Bupp), and his sister, Bonnie Lee Schwartz.
He entered the U.S. Navy shortly after graduation from Northeastern High School in 1962. He lived with his family near the naval bases in Alameda, Calif.and Norfolk, Va. and Groton, Conn. On retiring from the Navy after 20 years of service, he moved with his family to Gloucester, Va. He continued to work as a civilian contractor, and then as a school bus driver for the Gloucester schools.
In his free time, he was an avid and skilled skeet shooter, with many tournament trophies to his name. He loved working outside the family home, making the land around their home beautiful with trees, flowering plants, bulbs and an abundant vegetable garden. His well-loved and friendly dogs were always at his side. Mabel will miss him as much as the rest of his family does.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Judith "Judy" Legore Schwartz. He was proud father to Jon Schwartz (Andrea) of Pittsboro, N.C., and Jerry Schwartz, of Gloucester, Va. His surviving sisters and brother are Ronald (Chrissie) Schwartz of New Oxford, Ruth (Jim) Ranker of Red Lion, Dottie (Ron) Smeltzer of York and Betty (Gary) Hoffman of Harrisburg. He is survived by a large, extended family of many nieces and nephews and their children.
A memorial service will be held for Bill at 2 p.m. on the 7th of May at Bethany United Methodist Church at 4510 Bull Road in Dover, the church where Bill and Judy were married in 1964, and where their sons were baptized. Pastor Sal Buonocore will officiate the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to your local animal shelter, or to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, at www.gvfrs.org or P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, VA 23061. Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
