William (Bill) Sheely, 81, formerly of Austin, MN, passed away November 17, 2017 in Florida, where he had wintered the past eight years. He was the loving husband of Carol Sheely, they married in 1958.
He was born in Ollie, IA, he attended various schools in both IA and MN, graduating from Austin High. He also attended the Vo-tech where he mastered Carpentry and Sheet Metal. He served in the Army and was mainly stationed in Korea.
Bill loved to tell every one he was born in a log cabin. After living in MN, his family moved to Austin area he lived on the family farm east of Austin. Always a farm boy at heart he eventually bought the 214 acres that he grew up on. He loved farming and served, at one time, as President of NFO in the area. He drove school bus for Southland Schools for over 15 years. He was a Boy Scout leader of Troop 124 in Austin.
Because he loved the outdoors and was good with his hands he built Beaver Trails Campground, even cutting the trees down, with help of his son, Chuck, planing and nailing each board. He and Carol ran the campground for 31 years selling it in 2007. After traveling in their motorhome for over 2 years, they moved to Dover to be near their daughter, Sandra, while still spending winters in Malabar, FL where their grandson went to college.
In addition to his wife, William is survived by son, Charles of Mora, MN; daughter, Sandra of Dover; grandson, Matthew Wentz of Detroit, MI; brother, Larry, and wife, Karen, Austin; sister, Eleanor Johnson; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl (Davis) Sheely and C. Arthur Sheely; brothers and spouses, LaVerne (Catherine), Lowell (Wilma); sisters and spouses, Eloise Foss (Lester) and Carolyn (Dwayne).
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Austin MN
