Florence Toomey Obituary
Manchester - Florence M. Toomey, 98, of Manchester, formerly of York Haven, passed away at 8:23 AM, Monday, September 24, 2018, at Normandie Ridge Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Melvin P. Toomey who died on October 30, 1973.
Mrs. Toomey was born December 30, 1919, in Mount Wolf and was the daughter of the late Charles and Lottie (Houston) Deardorff.
She attended Manchester High School in Manchester. She was the owner and operator of Florence Toomey's Beauty Shop in York Haven for over 24 years retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Mount Wolf V.F.W. Post 2493, Northeastern Senior Center in Mount Wolf, Susquehanna Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary of York Haven, Pleasureville Senior Fellowship, and the former York Haven United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Toomey is survived by her daughter, Ruth A. Laughman of Manchester; her son, Ronald M. Toomey and his wife, Lois of York Haven; 5 grandchildren, Dan (Shelley) Laughman, Ronald Toomey, Jr., Marcia (Bob) Halbert, Alena King and Donna (Ron) Ellis; 8 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren, and her sister, Vilma Kortie of York. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Miller, Anna Diehl, Miriam Unger, Estella Gingerich, Luella Thumma, Naomi Sager, and Sara Lightner and her brothers, Dale Deardorff, Charles Deardorff and Bill Deardorff.
Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 27, 2018 at The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf. Viewing will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Manchester Union Cemetery in Manchester. Officiating at the service will be The Reverend Gary Zortman from Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
