Juanita "Jenny" Lopez Obituary
Juanita L. "Jenny" Lopez, 76, of Topeka, KS died Thursday, April 13, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital. She was born March 22, 1941 the daughter of Guadalupe and Guadalupe (Lopez) Lira. Jenny was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society. One of Jenny’s greatest pleasures was watching and spending time with her grandchildren. She married Joseph Lopez, Sr. on April 29, 1961 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He survives. Other survivors include her children, Linda Rivera of Kingwood, TX, Christine (Tammi) Lopez of Topeka, Joseph (Linette) Lopez, Jr. of Topeka, Gabriel Lopez of San Antonio, TX, Laura Lopez of Topeka, Diane (Tim) Venegas of San Antonio, TX, Carol (Ronnie) Guest of San Antonio, TX, Dannielle (Jason) Maxfield of McFarland, KS, siblings, Gonzalo Lira, Fernando (Carroll) Lira, Andrea (Albert) Gonzales, Maria Ortega, Angie Lira, Richard Lira, Pamela (Augustine) Martinez, Mario Lira and San Juana Lira. Seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by a twin sibling at infancy, her parents, two sisters, Dolores Tetuan, Carol Lira and a brother, Guadalupe Lira, Jr. Jenny will lie in state after 4:00 pm Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday at the Church. Cremation will follow. Inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, St. Matthew Catholic Church or Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, sent in care of the funeral home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.

I grew up about 3 houses away from Juanita and we visited each other's homes often when we were growing up. I always loved and admired her and her husband Joseph (who grew up across the street from my family). They were blessed to have spent so many years together. Dear family, siblings and friends who will miss Jenny. I did not know Jenny well, but she was sister to my friend Andi Lira (Gonzales). From time to time I would see her and she was always busy with her growing family. I could tell she loved her children dearly. She was a beautiful girl with a beautiful smile.
