Betty Myers Obituary

Betty Jane (King) Myers

June 23, 1935 - October 11, 2025

Betty Jane (King) Myers passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, at Belmont Village in Thousand Oaks, Calif., surrounded by family.

She was born June 23, 1935, in Lawrence, Kan., and raised in Troy, Kan., until moving with her parents, Ward and Flossie King, to York, Neb. Betty enjoyed her junior high and high school years in York while forming cherished lifelong friendships. She graduated from YHS in 1953 and shortly after met her future husband, James D. Myers, and started their family. After over a decade in York, the family moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, where James became CEO & President of M&M Livestock Products Co.

Betty stayed active while raising Jim Jr., Dan, Suzanne and John. She had a passion for music and was a gifted singer as a member of the A# Music and Sacred Heart Church Choirs. A highlight was playing 'Dolly' in the Paddle Wheel Players production of 'Hello Dolly!' Betty was a proud member of P.E.O. and enjoyed many years of Bridge and Dinner clubs in Eagle Grove.

Family meant everything to Betty. After returning to York during retirement, and later Lincoln, she and Jim enjoyed taking road trips to visit children and grandchildren in Iowa, New York, and California. They had several European adventures and were especially thrilled to visit Betty's ancestors' castle in Scotland.

A life-long Nebraska Cornhusker fan, Betty loved all Husker athletics. She was an athlete in her own right, walleye fishing in Canada, sailing, golfing, and snow skiing for many years. She became a die-hard L.A. Dodger fan after moving to California with Jim in 2014.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ward and Flossie King of York, Neb.; her husband of 68 years, James D. Myers of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and her son, Daniel W. Myers of Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Betty is survived by her children, Jim (Lori) Myers of Humboldt, Iowa, Suzanne Myers Falletti of Los Angeles, Calif., and John (Brenda) Myers of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Teri Myers of Eagle Grove, Iowa; brother-in-law, Richard Myers of Allegan, Mich.; grandchildren, Joseph Myers of Des Moines, Iowa, Michael (Amber) Myers of Humboldt, Iowa, Thomas Myers of Humboldt, Iowa, Olivia Falletti of Venice, Calif., Stella Myers of Los Angeles, Calif., and Cory (Susannah) Paeper of Independence, Mo.; and great-grandchildren, Everly and Boden Naeve of Humboldt, Iowa and Jacob Paeper of Independence, Mo.

Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, October 24, 2025, 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York with the Reverend Father John Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, York. Friends are invited to join the family one hour prior to services at the church. To conclude, the family invites all to join for lunch at The Chances R.

Per Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place, she will be laid to rest next to James. There will be no viewing or visitation. Condolences for the family may be left at www.metzmortuary.com.

Earlier today

Dearest Betty
It´s been many years since we were cheerleaders together for several years at York high. We even shared Bob Burnham off and on. Haha. You have always been so much fun and lively and cute. And you never changed. You are a beautiful lady. The world has lost a precious soul.
