March 18, 1931 - September 11, 2025

Gordon David Wurst, age 94, of York, died Thursday, September 11, 2025, in York.

He was born on March 18, 1931, to John and Elise (Kurzen) Wurst in rural Seward County, Neb. He graduated from McCool Junction High School in 1949. On November 3, 1957, he was united in marriage to Lillian Louise Jacobsen in Bayard, Neb.

Gordon proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 overseas in Korea. He earned multiple service awards: United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

He was a long-time farmer in the York area and raised registered black angus cattle with his brother, Willie. Gordon attended New Heights Church and also belonged to the VFW. Gordon enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing. He was very proud of his family and always took interest in whatever they were doing.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; children, Dave Wurst of Cozad, Neb., Dan Wurst of Bradshaw, Neb., Lillie Wurst and Beth Wurst, both of York; grandsons, Michael (Sara) Wurst of Omaha, Neb.; and daughter, Ava, and a baby on the way, Jason (Haley) Wurst of Sutherland, Neb., and children, Tera, Corbin and Porter; sister, Marie Carlson of Stromsburg, Neb.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, and four sisters.

Private family services will be held. Gordon has been cremated; there will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Condolences may be left for the family at metzmortuary.com. Metz Mortuary in York is handling the arrangements.
