Gretchen Troester, age 93, of Hampton, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024, at her home.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 14th at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Rev. Mike Neidow will officiate. Burial will be at 9:30 A.M. prior to the service at the Salem Cemetery. Visitation with family will be from 5 - 7 P.M. Friday, December 13th at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made to Mission Central, Orphan Grain Train or Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: GRETCHEN TROESTER

Gretchen Suzanne Troester, the daughter of Clarence C. and Annie (Mercer) McCray, was born at Aurora, Nebraska on October 20,1931 and passed away in Hampton, Nebraska on November 28, 2024, at the age of 93.

Gretchen grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1949. She worked for a short time as a telephone operator in Aurora.

Gretchen was united in marriage to Kenneth Willard Troester on August 27, 1950 at Aurora. They lived on the farm, where Gretchen stayed home to raise their six children and taught them about her Savior Jesus Christ. In 1979 they moved into Hampton. Ken passed away on April 8, 2015.

Gretchen was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, a longtime church choir member and a lifelong member of the LWML. She dearly loved serving as Hamilton County Bloodmobile Coordinator and volunteer for the Red Cross for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Dick Troester and Philip Troester; two sisters and two brothers.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Gene (Deb) Troester of Lincoln, Chris (Jan) Troester of Lee's Summit, MO and Matt (Diane) Troester of Mokena, Illinois; daughter, Anne (Dan) Daly of Aurora; daughters-in-law, Linda Troester of Hampton and Cindy Troester of Basehor, KS; 19 grandchildren, Alyssa Troester, Erika (Austin) Mitts, Lauren (Josh) Jost, Neal Troester, Amy Troester, Blake (Karisa) Troester, Jackie Troester, Ryan Troester, Blair (Clinton) Moore, Aaron (Jessi) Troester, Ann (Steve) Hohnstadt, Rachel (Randy) Schuster, Nathan (Paige) Troester, Mitchell (fiancée Lauren Kraft) Troester, Ian Troester, Amber (Matt) Olsen, Sara (Matt) Myers, Kara (Nathan) Ronnau and Michael (Katie) Fagan; 2 step-grandchildren, April (Jerrod) Phillip and Amanda (Ryan) Medinger; 28 great-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren, sisters-in-laws, Norma Troester and Beverly Troester and special caretaker and friend Debbie Williams.

Gretchen will be remembered as a loving and caring wife and mother. Gretchen was a faithful follower of Christ and devoted to serving Him.
