James C. "Butch" Johnson, age 74, of York, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2025, in York.
He was born on March 28, 1951, in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, to James L. and Evelyn (Morgan) Johnson. On June 26, 2010, he was united in marriage to Jacque Belmarz in Sedro-Woolley.
Butch was an avid outdoorsman who could tell dozens of stories about his hunting experiences across the entire United States, including big-game hunts for Black bears and much more. Butch also enjoyed mechanics and racing in his younger years, often racing sprint cars at the Skagit Speedway in Sedro-Woolley. In his later years, he became a member of the Sedro-Woolley Eagles Club.
In recent years, Butch moved to Nebraska to be closer to his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He cherished spending time with them, especially during Wednesday night family dinners.
He is survived by his brother, Curt (Jackie) Johnson of Sedro-Woolley, and his daughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Mogul and Kim (Scott) VanEsch of York.
His grandchildren include Echo Sweeney of Aurora, NE, Kennedy Mogul of Seward, NE, Conner (Allison) Mogul, Dalton (Kate) Mogul, Kylie (Cody) McGowan, and Deven VanEsch, all of York.
Great-grandchildren include Kinley and J.J. Sweeney of Aurora, Vivian, Bodie, and Monroe Mogul, and Colton, Casen, and Crew McGowan, all of York.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacque Johnson; his parents, James and Evelyn Johnson; and his sister, Sandra Williams, all of Sedro-Woolley
It was Butch's wish to be cremated, and no formal services will be held. Memorials may be directed to his family for a later designation. Online condolences may be sent to the family at metzmortuary.com.

Condolences to Butches family, I worked with Butch for many years at Snelson Co. Butch always took care of our needs on jobs and was a fellow Eagles member. He will also be remembered and missed as a great friend to my wife and I. RIP!

To the Family of Butch Johnson,
I totally agree with the many comments of Butch being a great man! We worked together for many years at Snelson Inc. Butch taught me an amazing amount of skill in every part of a mechanics shop that featured an enormous amount of varied heavy equipment down to small engines. How to weld and operate equipment. Skills I have used my entire life. We hiked to lakes to fish, shared memories of playing high school football and laughed a lot! His teaching skills were second to none.
