A great man has joined God's heavenly family. Bobby Glenn Greene, 79, of 942 Airport Road, Rockingham, N.C., died Monday, March 3, 2014, at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 5, 1934, in Richmond County, son of Morris Greene and Effie Chappell Greene.
Bobby was a man that loved his family and held his friends dear to heart. He had a great love for God's outdoor gifts and was happiest when he was surrounded by his family, tending his garden and piddling with his farm and yard equipment. He was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy, Flowers Street, Rockingham, and worked as an electrician for 35 years at TNS Mills.
Greene is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bobby G. Greene Jr.; and a brother, Leo Greene.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Myra Jacobs Greene of the home; daughters, Myra Joy Beaver and husband David, Ginger Burgess and Fiancé Buddy Benton, Effie Baldwin and husband Billy and Cathy Covington and husband Bill; eight grandchildren, Josh and Jeremy Robinson, Michelle, Summer and Michael Glenn Burgess and Brandon, Chad and Hope Baldwin; nine great-grandchildren, Caleb, Savanna, Jeremy David (JD), Joey and Jacob Robinson, Cierra, Austin Lee and Tucker Cowick and Trinity; brothers, Thurman Greene, David Chappell, Gerald Greene and Billy Greene; and sisters, Letha O'Neal, Coleen Floyd and Betty Gene Greene.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Church of God of Prophecy, Flower Street, Rockingham.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Steve Gilmer officiating. Burial will follow at Greene Cemetery, Ellerbe.
For those that wish, memorials may be made in Bobby's memory to Gideons International, RC South 32116, P.O. Box 931, Hamlet, NC 28345 ; as he loved his Bible and loved sharing God's word with others.
