ROCKINGHAM — Robert Isaac Howell, Jr., 54, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, at Pruitt Health in Rockingham, N.C. Robert was born on October 27, 1970, to the late Carol and Robert "Bobby" Howell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Lois and Grady Snead; paternal grandparents: George Cannon & Sarah Howell; uncles: Randy Snead, Alan Snead, and Steve Snead; cousins: Daniel Ray Hildreth, and Gavin Powell; and sister-in-law, Melanie Wade Goodwin.
Robert spent his career as a machinist for over 30 years, as well as time employed as a correctional officer. When not working, Robert had many interests and hobbies that would fill his time. He loved Jeep's and had a passion for sports. Robert thoroughly enjoyed golf, baseball, bowling, Nascar, and was an avid NFL Eagles fan. In his off time, he could be found fishing, and loved any time he could spend outdoors with and in nature. Most importantly, Robert loved his family. He was truly a devoted son, husband, and father, and he will be dearly missed by all his family, friends, and coworkers. Robert left a lasting impression on all he met that now will leave behind a rich and wonderful legacy of love.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 22 years, Beth Goodwin Howell, his children: stepdaughter, Xanthe Elizabeth Pattan, Cody Howell (Hailey), stepson, Austin G. Andrews, Quentin Howell, and Turner Howell; four grandchildren; uncles and aunts: Michael Howell (Ann), Caroline Howell (Tim), William Howell, Neil Howell (Allison), Vivian Snead, Christina Snead, David Snead, and Linda Coward (Gary); mother-in-law: Diane Riggan Goodwin; brother-in-law: Wayne Goodwin; sister-in-law: Sarah Goodwin Shepherd (Adam); as well as a large family and many friends.
A celebration of life in Robert's memory will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Tabernacle Spirit Church, on Highway 381(between Hamlet and Gibson), 18521 Hamlet Road (Ghio) Hamlet, N.C., with Pastor Tony Weatherford and Pastor Kelly Hunt officiating.
In addition to flowers, memorials in honor of Robert may be made out to Tabernacle Spirit Church of Ghio at P.O. Box 545, Hamlet, N.C. Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham is serving the Howell family.
