TERI JACOBS MELTON
ROCKINGHAM — Teri J. Melton, beloved wife, sister and friend, passed away at her home unexpectedly on Sunday, March 3, 2019. She was born Teri Patrice Jacobs, the second of six daughters, to the late Cecil and Mildred Jacobs of Rockingham, NC on March 9, 1954.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband of 17 years, Gerry Melton; her five sisters: Janet (Ritchie) McLamb of Raleigh, Penny Jacobs and Miki (Wesley) Huneycutt of Hamlet, Lori (Stanley) Lindsey of Granite Falls, and Karen Torrence of Fletcher, NC; a brother-in-law, Norman (Gloria) of Snow Hill, NC.
Teri also leaves behind her nephews (Jacob, Matthew, Lucas, Michael and Mark), nieces (Jennifer, Whitney, Caitlin, Stephanie, Donna, Gina and Shelly) and great-nephews (Jacoby, Tyson, Luke, Jordan, Gage, John Michael and Tyler) all of whom she treated as her own children. She delighted in their company and was always available to assist and encourage them in their endeavors.
Teri graduated from Hamlet High School and received her B.A. degree in Business Administration from Gardner-Webb University. She was employed by Richmond Community College for 30 years as Registrar and then as Director of Institutional Research prior to her retirement. She was a faithful member of 2nd Baptist Church of Hamlet, NC. Those who knew Teri were aware of her kindness and her sweetness of spirit. Her husband, Gerry, was the love of her life.
Her family was her home. She was a woman of faith who believed in the goodness of people and endeavored to display the love of Christ to them. She loved animals as God's special creatures and was often moved to tears by the abuse or mistreatment of any animal. Her beloved pets, Little Boy and Tobi, will miss her gentle touch.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 1pm with the funeral service to follow at 2pm, with the Rev. Chris Hawks and Rev. Ricky Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park in Rockingham, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Teri's honor may be made to one of the following: 2nd Baptist Church of Hamlet, NC 518 4th Street, Hamlet NC 28345; Richmond County Animal Shelter PO Box 504 Rockingham, NC 28380 or Richmond Community College PO Box 1189 Hamlet, NC 28345.

I've always thought so much of Teri, a sweet friend. Whenever some of us former female classmates of HHS class of '72 would get together for lunch occasionally Teri would join us of course. I would drive down from Raleigh since Hamlet is also my hometown and we would meet and it was always a good time spent together. Teri was sweet and fun to be around, now one empty seat at our table, she will be greatly missed. My sincerest condolences and prayers to all her family and friends.
