WILLIAM BURKHART
William" Bill" Erwin Burkhart of Glen Rose, TX peacefully passed away in his sleep surrounded by his family on May 24, 2025. He was 92 years old.
Bill is survived by his wife Janet; sons Mark (Brenda), Greg (Jan) and Robert (Carole); his grandchildren Brittney, Ian, Paige, Dallas, Jackson and Annie; and his great grandchildren Sierra and Rowan. He is also survived by his brothers Jim and Pike; sister-in-law Marilyn Coats; along with several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his sisters, Lynda and Janie.
Bill was born and raised on his parent's cotton farm in Tahoka, Texas. After high school graduation Bill proudly served his country in the Navy and later the Army. Bill attended SMU and the University of North Texas. Bill was an oil roughneck in Montana and the Gulf of America and later made his career in sales.
One evening in November of 1958, Bill and his brother, Jim, were on their way home to Tahoka and noticed two college co-eds stranded on the side of the road with their car. They stopped and gave them a ride to Lubbock. It was Janet and her roommate going to Lubbock for Thanksgiving. It was love at first sight and the two were married on November 27, 1959. Bill and Janet lived in Dallas, Hill Top Lakes and Richardson, Texas raising their boys. Bill and Janet were married for 65 years.
They moved to Glen Rose in 1999 to spend their retirement years. Bill was a very active member of the Glen Rose Lions Club. He enjoyed many years coordinating the Glen Rose Lions Club Annual Charity Golf Tournament. He won many Lions Club awards including the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow award. Bill was a long-time member of the Glen Rose Methodist Church.
During his lifetime Bill enjoyed many sports. He was on his high school football and boxing teams and had the talent to box in the Texas Golden Gloves. Bill participated in the basketball, boxing and baseball teams while stationed with the Army in Germany.
Bill's two greatest passions were gardening and golf. Wherever he lived he had a garden and utilized the labor of his three boys. He knew the location of all the good golf courses everywhere he lived and chose to retire in Glen Rose to perfect his game. You could find him playing a round of golf any day of the week.
The family would like to thank everyone from Solaris including Alexis and Kinsey for their special care for Bill.

A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 11AM. Glen Rose Methodist Church.
