Olive Vernon Cathron

1922 - 2021

Olive Verlin Cathron, longtime resident of Okmulgee, passed to her eternal home with Jesus Christ our Lord on Friday evening, November 19, 2021.
Olive was second oldest of seven girls, born in Nowata, in June of 1922.
She grew up in Oklahoma and Texas. She moved with her husband, Elmer Cathron, to Okmulgee in 1949. Olive worked for 30 years at the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as an Administrative Assistant. She loved attending her church, First Assembly of God as long as she was able. She loved her little dogs, cooking, embroidery and working crossword puzzles.
Olive is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Whomble of the home and Carol Mattingly and husband Buzz of South Carolina; grandchildren, Fred Dirani and wife Kalei of Tulsa, Shannon Whomble Williams and husband Mark of Bixby and Paul David of Atlanta, Georgia; and one great grandson, Dominic Dirani of Tulsa.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Elmer F. Cathron; her parents; a son-in-law, Doug Whomble; and six sisters.
A time of viewing was  held 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home followed by a 2 p.m. Graveside Service at the Okmulgee Cemetery officiated by Reverend Raymond Doke. Honorary Casket Bearers were Fred Hanson Dirani, Paul David, Mark Williams, Greg Adolph and Reverend Thomas Mattingly. Dominic Dirani will serve as a Junior Honorary Casket Bearer.
