Delbert L Johnson Jr., better known as Del, passed away on January 14, 2024, in his home surrounded by his family.
Del was born on January 9, 1948 in Morenci, Arizona to Elizabeth Beauford and Delbert L Johnson Sr. Del was raised in the Morenci and Safford, Arizona areas; Del recalled working cattle ranches with his Pa and uncles in Morenci, Arizona and Ruidoso, New Mexico. He always appreciated the benefits of ranching.
Del's parents relocated to Yuma in the early '60s, where he attended local schools and graduated from Kofa High School. Soon after graduation Del joined the U.S Navy, serving from 1966 to 1970, his sea tour assignment was on the USS Segundo 398 Submarine.
After his military service Del held various jobs; until he landed the job of his dreams and went on to work for the US Government Department of the Interior / Bureau of Reclamation as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Foreman and retired after 30+ years of government service.
Del is survived by his loving wife, Maggie; his son, Joe (Yvonne) Ramos; daughters, Jennifer Johnson, Jaime Singh (Lee); grandsons, Joe Ramos Jr., Anthony Castro, Mo Southard; granddaughters, Jasmine Edens (Rich), Caitlin Castro, Havan Dudenhoefer (William); great grandchildren, Sadie Edens, Aidan Edens, and Will Dudenhoefer.
Del was a kind soul, he did not care what you looked like or what you owned, he saw that person as a human being that deserved to be treated with respect.
Del was a true patriot, and for the past 14 years Del and Maggie hosted Veteran's Day celebrations at their home for their veteran friends; veterans ranging from the Korean War up to Afghanistan. All veterans were welcomed, honored and celebrated for their service to our great country.
And, so it is fitting that Del's Celebration of Life will be held on Veteran's Day November 11, 2024, at the Johnson residence.
Private Cremation was handled by Yuma Mortuary.
