My condolences to the family. Mr. Finfrock was my teacher of Earth Science and I was just talking to someone about learning the rocks and what a good teacher I had. Made me look him up. He was kind, thoughtful and I have good memories of his class. Rest in Peace.

To the Finfrock Family,
I just want to say that is was a honor to be in the present of Dennis. He will truly be missed!I will always remember the last conversation we had when he was wearing a fishing shirt with salmon then the next day he had on a shirt with the bate. So i said " Dennis what happened? you caught the fish before putting out the bate?" He replied " Yeah im the only one who can do that!" He will truly be missed

Dear Mrs. Green and Debbie,
From time to time I check the obituaries in the Yuma Sun. I was shocked tonight when I saw Dennis' name, and was sorry to hear of his passing.
It has been several years since I last talked to Dennis, but I shall always remember him not only as a great athlete, but as a dedicated student and an outstanding young man who was always a credit to his family.
It was an honor to have known him and to have been associated with him.

What a great guy...Dennis was the best! You cannot begin to imagine the impression he made on me in my late teens and early twenties.
Though I had not seen Dennis since working for him at the Ali vs. Holmes fight in October of 1980, I followed his career from afar with tremendous admiration and respect.
I've never met anyone else quite like Dennis. I was always so impressed with his passion for life and compassion for others. I can still recall several uplifting conversations he had with me.
Kay, though our paths crossed long ago and for a short period of time, I want you to know how much I appreciated the kindness and thoughtfulness you and Dennis showed me. You two were a great team!
My heart sank when I read of his death. My heartfelt condolences go out to you and Jason, Mrs. Green, Debby, Scott, and Jane.

Dennis,
Thank you for being the man who allowed me to enter your office as a young college graduate to share my ideas and become an intern. You listened and you made me feel like I was apart of this great team called the Thomas and Mack Center.
Over the years you continued to allow me to share what was on my mind. Like a widdler who was smoothing out the jagged edges of a rock, you watched me grow and allowed my energy to burn. You were a man who appreciated and cherished the opportunity to assist and mold young people, who showed a desire to want to make a difference.
Dennis you allowed me into your life. You took me on a journey constantly teaching thru non-verbal communication as well as a simple pat on the back or even a kick under the table. You allowed me to be apart of your final day, which to this moment has humbled me and my emotions, in an experiencing your spirit transition or toggle from this life to your next great adventure.
We all can only be so lucky to have the peace and confidence you demonstrated as you fully understood the relationship you had with your God, as you prepared yourself and those around you for your exit.
Thank you for the memories and the experiences we shared, your imprint and spirit will always be present in my journey as a Husband, Father, Friend and mentor to those around me.
Love ya buddy

Dear Kay, Jason and family,
I am so sorry for your loss of Dennis, but, at the same time, happy that the Lord has released from his long struggle with Parkinsons. He is missed by many of us who loved and admired him. Dennis had a unique way of making each of us feel "special". We shared many lunches together at CLC and enjoyed an outing to a fast-food resturant a few times but his greatest joy was when Jason would pick him up for lunch. Both Ralph and I felt it a pleasure to give him a ride home following a meeting at church.
I wish you many blessings as you adjust to your loss.

Many will miss the presence of Dennis in their daily lives, and many will always remember the vital role he played in promoting UNLV as a venue for a variety of entertainment for our community. Dennis was smart, kind, generous, and always a gentleman. He was a wonderful example of someone with a "can do" attitude. I saw him from time to time over the last few years and he always had a smile. He is a man I admired and will continue to do so. Kay and family, my deepest sympathy.

Kaye,
When I think of Dennis, especially in these past few years, two words come to mind- "Courage" and "Dignity". What an example he set for all of us as we face life's challenges. Betty and I will always remember the support for the Youth Ministry at CLC that Dennis and you gave us in the 1980's when that ministry was really struggling. God bless you and your family as we celebrate Dennis's life here on earth and rejoice in his final peace in heaven.

Dearest Finfrock family far and wide,
I came into this family over 30 years ago. The first time I met Den I was awestruck. First by the mustache, I had heard so much about, then secondly by the shear powerfulness of him. He just radiated confidence and strength. As I got to know him, I realized those first impressions were right on. He was smart, funny, humble, loving, strong, assured and compassionate. I sit reading all the entries in the guest-book and just wonder at the amount of lives he touched in a positive way. What better legacy to leave. I knew him as my brother-in-law and Uncle to my children. To read all the kind words people have written is such a blessing, it is so comforting to know he was kind to everyone, not just some.
Uncle Den, my boys loved you so, so much, you were especially close to Alan, maybe because he is your namesake, or maybe just because. We all miss you terribly and our hearts hurt - FOR US. For you - we rejoice. You are in the presence of our Lord and I know that you are organizing everyone and everything to make it just the way it should be. Get everything ready, as we will be coming to be with you again. I thank the Lord that you are no longer suffering, your pain is over. It was hard on us to see you in pain and suffering so. I can't imagine what it must have been like for you, your body failing, but your mind and spirit still strong. It is so hard to believe you are gone. We love you now and always.....

Kay ... it's been years but when I read of Dennis's passing, I had to write. I didn't know Dennis well since I was a freshman when he was a senior at YHS but he was a role model to all of us underclassmen. I know Debby better since she was good friends with my sister. Dear family and friends,
Uncle Den was an exciting, kind, funny, adventurous, honest, and loving Uncle to say the least! Just like my Mom said, he was a very inspiring man, and I never heard him say a harsh word.I was inspired by him and especially his love of animals and nature. He made a huge impact on my life because of this. I will never forget how in my younger years, he bought me a book on whales, dolphins and sea creatures and forever ignited my love for the Ocean. I now live in Hawaii and am currently a dive master thanks to Uncle Den. Thank you to uncle Den for the wonderful times and memories, and the ways you have inspired so many just like myself. You will always be in my heart.

From the first time I met Dennis in late 1984 he became a center of influence in my life.
He would never tell you what to do or how to do it, but how to create the environment where you wanted to live.
Road blocks were not obstacles but opportunities.
Dennis led by example, he encouraged free thought and creativity. He shared his wins with those around him and shouldered the responsibilty for loses.
He gave me the tools to understand that you are closest to your victory when you faced your greatest opposition. Not to give up just because there was opposition or the fact that it had never been done before. Never allow anyone to discourage you or take away your vision. To keep pressing through and that you were closer to your objective than you were the day before.
That it was my right of free agency to me to choose excellence. That the future is predetermined by the character of those who shape it.
His thumb print has been on every accomplishment I have enjoyed and will be on everyone I'll ever do.
Thanks buddy, I'll miss you

Dear Finfrock family,
I had the good fortune of being Mr. Finfrock's student in both science at Jim Bridger Jr. High and biology at Rancho. Students used to congregate in his classroom before 1st period because he was fun to be around and made us feel important. He was not only a good teacher but my favorite. After about 30 years, I ran into him at CLC and visited with him for a bit. He remembered me by my maiden name and asked about my life. I won't forget him. May God's grace strenthen and comfort your family in the days ahead.

Try having Dennis Finfrock for your "big brother"! I am his sister and I was very inspired by him. He was an excellent role model for me and sooooo many others. I wonder where I would have been today without him. I worked very hard because of him and our competitive nature. He won of course, ha!! I don't think I ever heard him say any unkind words or mean things about any one. I believe he learned that from our Gran...two peas in a pod that are now together in heaven above. We miss him and know he is already busy on the other side doing what he does best...impacting others in a very positive way.

Dear Kay, Jason and Leslie,
We were so saddened to hear of Dennis's death. We remember him with fondness when we think about the days at CLC---Dennis ,"The CHAIRman" in the old sanctuary; all those years of the Harvest Fest; Dennis and Kay being such loyal members of CLC and willing to take on anything for the betterment of the church. We, also, are thankful to Dennis for how good he was to our girls, Dawn and Jennifer; as well as, other young people in the congregation. He was alway willing to give kids a chance.
You will be in our thoughts and prayers now and in the days to come.

My first year at UNLV as the athletic trainer, Dennis and I actually roomed together a couple times while traveling with the men's basketball team. That was 1982. Since that time, Dennis was always a friend and collague. Dennis dedicated himself to being healthy and I would see him everyday in the old MPE building working out and then coming into the athletic training room and riding our bikes or running on the treadmill. We would spend that time talking about everything from athletics to hunting and fishing. His illness took his physical life away from him but I know through the years he remained as strong as ever. I will personally miss Dennis. He was part of UNLV's history. He is in a much better place now and my thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Finfrock Family-
Please accept our sncere condolences on the loss of your beloved Dennis. He was many things to many people. To you he was husband, father & father-in-law. To the rest of the world he was a fine gentleman. He made such a wonderful impact on alot of people from our fair city, Las Vegas. He was very well-respected by everyone. He had many relationships with alot people, including ours, the Humm family. My husband Tom, while at the various radio stations he worked for, dealt with him many times on a professional and personal level. Our sons, Steve, Joe & Jimmy were well-coached and mentored by Jason at Bishop Gorman High School. I know Jason's interest in being a role model and love for football was a reflection of his dad, Dennis. For that we are grateful.
Please know you all are in our thoughts & prayers.

Jim and I were deeply saddened to hear of Dennis' passing. Jim regrets very much not getting over to see him in the care center. Dennis changed Jim's life when he asked him to come out to Vegas and help him at UNLV in 1977. Jim was at a low point in Iowa and the opportunity was just what he needed. You and Dennis were so kind to us in helping us start out in a new city and state. We remember that time fondly and regret deeply that our lives moved in different directions and we didn't see you both much over the years. Dennis was the rare type of man you couldn't help but admire and he will be sorely missed by so many people. Our hearts are breaking for your loss.

Den was my hero! Spending my summers as a kid in Yuma with the Finfrock clan; Gran & Aunt Babe were special times indeed. Even the time Den dove into the canal and split his head wide open, I looked up to, admired and even grew a handlebar mustache to be more like him. You can't even begin to imaging all the times I've told the stories about his life from football @ BYU; coaching at UNLV and Finco security, Thomas Mack Arena and the rodeo; being UNLV AD and firing Tark; to MGM and the Barbra Streisand concert; to hunting leopard in South Africa. You will always be my role model and hero, cousin Den. Shirley & I are so thankful that we got to see you in March.

I started working at TMC in 1992 just as Dennis was moving over to the MGM to open the Grand Gardens Arena. I know that through the years, he didn't know exactly what I did here but he always treated me like someone who had worked for him for years and was part of his TMC family. The respect that he gave and got back in return from everyone was always evident in everything he did. He was truly a "man's man", one that will be sorely missed and the kind of man we need more of in the world today. My condolences to you Jason and Kay, I know Dennis loved you and would want you to carry on without being remorseful.

My memories of Dennis at the Thomas and Mack Center are many. He was one of those rare people who could make anyone feel important. He not only cared about you as an employee, but knew your family as well. My daughter once interviewed him as a Prominent Nevadan for a middle school assignment. He was Uncle Den or Coach to me, my boys, Alan & Joe and my wife, Carol. We all cried when we got the news of his passing even though we knew it was coming, it was still hard to hear. When I read all of these notes from the guest book, I can see just how many people he has touched. How nice it is to hear things like he was my favorite teacher or my coach or co-worker or just a good friend. The out-pouring of so much love, tells me how much he was loved and admired. To Jason, Kay and family –
I started working at the Thomas & Mack Center in August of 1985 for Pat Christenson. As I was being introduced to the staff, my first impression of Dennis was “The Mustache"!!
However, my lasting impression of Dennis is his work ethic, his integrity, and his caring for people. I greatly respected him as the true Boss of the Building.
In October of 1985, I was involved in the task of compiling around 50 event plan booklets which were to be distributed to various committees and political people for some kind of rodeo that we were going to have…and what a rodeo it turned out to be! (NFR) I remember sweating bullets working on getting that done because I didn’t want Dennis to be upset with me! He may have had the demeanor on the outside as “all business”…but once you got to know him, you got to know the real Dennis – the one who enjoyed dressing as Robin Hood for the Halloween Parties, and giving out door-prizes (including a “door”), and writing funny poems about the staff for special occasions, and crowning Mary for Queen for a Day on her birthday.
Dennis always remembered people’s names. He always took time to visit each area and speak to us for a minute after returning from trips. He loved every speck of the TMC and would brag about the chiller room floors. Dennis generated loyalty with the people that were able to work with him, and he encouraged excellence in whatever you do.
Many times over the years working here, I’ve remembered how Dennis cared about people and cared about the job, and then I was encouraged to imitate his attitude.
God Bless you and your family. May the God of all grace be with you and yours as you go through this time.

Dennis will always have a special place in the hearts of my mother and me from our memories of him in Yuma and his friendship with my brother, Vance Morse. There are so many of those memories and in many ways it seems like such a short time ago that he was hanging out at our house. I remember particularly all the work we did and fun we had working on his campaign for student body president in high school. I hadn't seen Dennis much since those days but did hear of his accomplishments and adventures, of which there were so many. My deepest condolensces to all of Dennis' family. He will always be in our hearts.

Dear Finfrock Family - I have a twin sister and Dennis was our racketball teacher at UNLV in the late 70's. He always had to get on us for goofing around too much. May your great memories of him bring you peace.

Kay and Jason and Leslie,
I met Dennis when he was Vice President of Special Events/Grand Garden Entertainment at MGM and I was VP Merchandise. He was my buddy. We were in the trenches together for 4 years. We both knew that we were writing and living history. Never again would a team build the world's largest Hotel/Casino/Grand Garden/Theme Park for Kirk Kerkorian. We were both having a ball. He couldn't wipe the grin off his face. And neither could I.
It was personal for us. We took the integrity of our positions seriously. We always had each had each others back. I loved his family. And he loved mine. I know it was one of the fondest of his career memories and I feel blessed that I could share it with him.

Dennis was one of the most intelligent and caring people I know; I treasured him as a dear friend. He always had a glint in his eyes when he was about to share his sense of humor, even when, recently, the words didn't come easily to him. He leaves a legacy of people and projects being so much better from his being a part of them.

Jason:
Your dad was a philosopher if there ever was one. There could have been a book of Denisizms and it would have been an interesting book to say the least. My only regret is that Dennis’s fighter did not come through and get Don King to shave his head. Fear was not in his acumen, or at least he hid it well. May God’s mercy be upon that well worn soul. He will always be one of my favorite leaders. First was Paul the apostle, then Abe Lincoln, then Dennis… Pretty good company. Jeter’s not even in my top 10… :-)
God’s blessings on You, Leslie, and Kay

To my father-in-law who guided our entire family and others he knew with calm dignity and wise advice. The out-pouring of sympathy is no surprise because of the way he touched so many people's lives whether it was to lend a helping hand, help find a job, mentor a career or be a shoulder to lean on, he was always there. His committment and dedication to the church and the community speaks volumes of the kind of person Dennis was/is. For me, your presence will be dearly missed. For you, Dad, the sun will be shining and the songbirds will be singing. All my love, Les

Many people knew Dennis throughout his lifetime. I was blessed with his friendship when the two of us worked at Community Lutheran Church together. You never know when you will meet one person who will make you stop and realize that you can do anything you want to with your life if you just try. He cared so much about others and would only talk about himself if you asked him to. He made me laugh with all his little jokes he would tell and make me smile when my day was not going so well. God is smiling right now because Dennis is in his arms!

I became a friend of Dennis at Community Lutheran Church through the Community Outreach group. Dennis became the leader of this ministry and brought a new enthuisiasm to the work. He developed a group that furnished water to the local shelters and individuals on the street. Dennis called me "friend" and this honor is among my most cherished. His courage and humor will remain with me as the "way life should be lived!

I was so saddened to hear of Dennis' death! I knew Dennis through his tenure with UNLV, was one of the first "ticket takers" at the Thomas & Mack, and had a wonderful friendhship through those many years. Kay, you may not remember this, but I also worked the outdoor concerts that Dennis set up at Caesar's, Sam's Town etc., and I met you through those events. My heart goes out to you Kay, and Jason. Dennis was an AWESOME man of integrity and he will be greatly missed by all! My prayers will certainly be with you both! May God grant you much peace during this time, and may you find comfort in the many, many fond memories you have! Much love, Gloria Zombro (formerly Shangreaux)

Kay and Jason, David and I were so sorry to hear of Dennis' passing. I know he has suffered for many years and at last he is at peace. He was always such a spark plug when we started working on the reunion and tell us what we needed to do and what he could do to help us! He will be greatly missed! Rest in Peace Dennis!

I met Coach Finfrock when I was a student at Chaparral High School. What a great man. He inspired a lot of kids then and continued to inspire people for the rest of his life. He accomplished a lot in his life but he will always be Coach to me. God bless him.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Finfrock's passing. I was a student of his years ago at Rancho High School, he was my earth science teacher. I had mentioned him recently when a group of co-workers and I were talking about our high school days. I mentioned he was my favorite teacher in high school and how he made science interesting. My deepest sympathy to his family, hold on to your memories for comfort.

Dear Finfrock family,
Dennis will always be remembered by Randy and I for his determination to continue giving to his church community almost to the end. Dennis lived life to the fullest and set an amazing example for others dealing with disabilities like Parkinsons. He was a wonderful person. Our prayers are with his family. May God's promise give you comfort.

I was indeed saddened to learn of the death of Dennis. I knew him while in HS in Yuma and remember him as a young man with great integrity. It is not surprising to learn of all he accomplished in his short life. I think what he would be most proud of would be a loving family. My prayers are with them at this time of loss. I will remember him fondly.

Dennis was able to take a wild teenager and guide him in the direction of focus and a future. I know without his caring I would have ended up in prison and worse yet maybe dead.
I will be forever grateful for his kindness and guidance.
Nanci and I send our love and prayers to you both. Our hearts break too.
The world has lost a kind loving man.

I remember Coach Finfrock as a teacher and coach at Rancho High School. He was one of the few coaches who gave the band any credit at all. It seems like a small thing but it meant lots to those of us in the band.
