Greg Warnock Obituary

Greg Anthony "Tony" Warnock left this earth Sunday, March 22, 2015. Tony was born in Yuma April 28, 1981 and resided here all but two years of his life, when he resided in Phoenix while attending trade school, and working his first HVAC job. Tony started working at his grandparents' farm in Bard, CA, in third grade picking citrus and tending to the multi-acre farm landscaping. When he was twelve years old, he started working with his dad after school greasing trucks for T & T Trucking and for his uncle, T. Warnock Trucking. He saved up all his money to build his first vehicle, a 1964 "Warnock Orange" Chevy truck. Tony's first "real" job was with Billy Lee at Estes Insulation the summer before his junior year. He worked all day, every day, all summer long installing commercial insulation and never complained once. After completing HVAC trade school in Phoenix, Tony worked at the Yuma Proving Ground for TRAX International, first as a Test Vehicle Operator III and then as an HVAC technician for several years until he was injured on the job. Tony and Kainoa moved in to the house next to his grandmother, Arlene, to keep an eye on her and provide any assistance as needed. Tony's whole adult life, he lived his philosophy: "do work."

Tony's priority has always been his family, especially his two sons. As children, Tony and his brothers were trophy-winning BMX racers at the Yuma track, and throughout high school all three were always messing around with bicycles in addition to their trucks. Tony involved his children in BMX racing and served as track president for a few years. Tony remained a Yuma BMX officer and was instrumental in fundraising and track operations. Tony has touched so many young lives through BMX, and the kids will miss him a great deal.

Tony was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Louis Warnock; his maternal grandfather, William Johnson, Sr.; and his uncle, Gary Warnock.

Tony's loss is mourned deeply by those who survive him: his wife and love of his life, Kainoa (Cowan); his precious children, Gage and Deegan; his parents, Greg and Brenda Warnock; mother, Mary Ward; his brothers and their wives, Tim (Rosie) and Robert (Jennifer); his beloved paternal grandmother, Arlene Warnock, whom he adored; his maternal grandmother, Margie Cole; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A public memorial will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the old Kammann Mortuary (now Funeraria del Angel), 795 W. 28th Street, Yuma with a funeral procession to Desert Lawn Memorial Park for the burial to follow. Pallbearers: Gage Warnock, Deegan Warnock, Freddie Reese, Randy Foy, Tim Warnock, Steve Kiest, Chris Warnock, Jose Urbalejo, Ryan McNeece, Jose Federico, Isaac Hernandez, Scott Binder, and Jesse "Budzy" Espino.

The Yuma community is welcome to celebrate Tony's rich, loving life at the Yuma BMX Track Saturday, March 28, 2015 at noon, 3067 S. Pacific Avenue. Tacos and other food and beverages will be served. Everyone is encouraged to bring a bike and take a lap or two. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Yuma BMX track that Tony loved.
