Jack Pettigrew Obituary

Jack Neil Pettigrew

July 20, 1938 - April 28, 2021

Jack entered his eternal life with Jesus on April 28, 2021. He attended and was a member of First Christian Church.

Jack was born in Des Arc, Arkansas, and moved to Yuma in 1953 at the age of 15. He started his lifelong work in the automotive business at the age of 16 when he was employed as a Parts Runner for Valley Motor Company. As the years and dealers changed, he worked in the Parts Dept., the Office, as a Service Repair Writer, 10 years as a Service Manager, Salesman, Sales Manager, and in later years, back to selling to his many friends and many returning customers; he retired last year. He always enjoyed talking to people and hearing their stories.

Jack was active in different organizations in the Yuma community throughout his life. A few are: Civil Air Patrol, Yuma Police Reserve Officer, Yuma Trade Club, and the Masonic Order.

Jack had a lifelong passion for golf. He also enjoyed baseball and played in the Yuma city league for a few years. Later, he coached in YBBL Little Leagues for both of his sons, and also assisted in Boy Scouts of America.

Jack is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan; his daughter, Rebecca Joan Franklin and husband George; his son, Steven Ray and wife Heidi; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; his brothers Roy, Michael and sister Shirley Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his son Bryan Neil and by brothers James, Bob and sister Patricia Florence.

Jack will always be loved and so greatly missed.

Donations to Crossroads Mission in Yuma in his name would be welcome.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.

I met Jack at Alexander Toyota and upon talking with him we found out our families have a long history that dates back I believe it was the old Karl Moedl or another old dealership where they worked together and forged a friendship. Jack your heart is made of pure gold Sir. Rest in Peace until we meet again.

My condolences to Joan and the rest of the family. I had the great pleasure of working with him back in 1989 at Gama Automotive when I was barely 19 years old. He took great care of me and taught me a lot of the ropes throughout the years as we moved on to Alexander Automotive. Although many years passed since I had seen him he still remembered me the few times that I would drop into the dealership and lo and behold he always had something funny to share. He was such a kind person and had a wonderful sense of humor and had many stories to tell. I'll always remember his chuckle. He will be greatly missed.

Jack will be missed.
Jack hired me 1 week after I left the Air Force in Dec 1976. And I will always be grateful to Him For that opportunity and the faith that he had in me.
