Jessie Eloise Layman

June 3, 1930 - March 23, 2014

Jessie 83 years young, known as "Eloise", was peacefully called to the Lord on Sunday night March 23, 2014 at 9:10 p.m. after a prolonged battle with heart disease. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert "Bob" McGill Layman. Eloise was born June 3, 1930 in Dalton City, Illinois to Ansel and Evelyn West.

Bob and Eloise enjoyed a fruitful military life with their family settling in El Paso, Texas. Eloise maintained the delicate balance of career and dedicated wife and mother, as a certified medical transcriptionist while raising four children. She retired from Providence Memorial Hospital after 37 1/2 years. She was admired by those she managed and was highly valued by the physicians that employed her. To demonstrate their appreciation for her dedication and professionalism she was awarded an all-inclusive Caribbean Cruise when she retired. She received numerous awards throughout her career.

Eloise grew up in Dalton City, graduating from Mt. Zion High School, valedictorian of her class. She was the eldest of 4 girls, Glenda Zimmerman of Worthington, Indiana; Donna Smith of Dalton City, Illinois and Lyndol Henderson of Columbus, Georgia. She and her sisters loved to travel on their annual girls' trips to Las Vegas and Mississippi to share a laugh and enjoy each other's company. They remained close until her passing.

Eloise's surviving children are Kenneth (Rob) Layman and wife Barbara of Leonardtown, MD., Lorinda (Sue) Maack of Coronado, CA. Grandchildren; David Galloway of Cedartown, GA, Lindsay Raglin of Abilene, TX, Zachary Fleming and Kelsey Layman of Leonardtown, MD., Brett and Lauren Maack of San Diego, CA. Great-grandchildren; Brinley Garcia and Lucy Wylie of Abilene, TX. and Tuesday Fleming of Milton, FL. She was predeceased by James McRae and Cheryl Spear.

A celebration of Eloise's life will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Foothills Assembly of God, 12831 E. 41st Street, Yuma, AZ. 85367. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation in the name of Eloise be made to the American Heart Association.

Our angel on earth is now home in the arms of the Lord.
