Larry L. Comet
December 3, 1944 - September 27, 2025
Larry L. Comet 80 of Yuma Valley Arizona was taken by the hands of his late parents calmly and peacefully where he went to start his journey in the second world on September 27, 2025. Larry was born in Yuma, Arizona where he was raised on Quechan Land which is now known as North Cocopah Indian Reservation.
He was an enrolled member of the Quechan Indian Tribe. Larry had the best of both tribes where he shared his culture from Cocopah and Quechan Tribes. Larry attended Yuma Union High School where he played football and Pole Volt. After high school Larry enlisted in the Navy where he would begin a new journey.
Larry was a Navy Vietnam Veteran he served from 1964-1966. As part of the Salisbury Sound Larry took part in the ship's last missions over to the Far East during the Vietnam War. On December 1, 1964 Larry and his shipmates left Oak Harbor off the coast of Washington to his first port in Buckner Bay off the coast of Okinawa, Japan. Larry returned home to Oak Harbor in 1965 and was honorably discharged September 30, 1966. Larry became involved in veterans affairs and dedicated a large portion of his life serving his fellow veterans, especially Native American Veterans across Arizona. Larry was active member of Post 56 and 19. He also participated in the Ira Hayes Memorial Celebrations honoring Native Americans. Larry was a
DAV commander and worked towards access to service for veterans in the Yuma Community. Larry and other veterans worked hard and even lobbied in Washington, DC to get services to our community. Larry has served as Chapter Commander and Service Officer for Chapter 11 in Yuma, Arizona for over 10 years. At times serving both offices simultaneously and with impeccable professionalism time and time again Larry has performed performed tirelessly on behalf of veterans, spouses and dependents. Larry also became a truck driver after the service, hauling hay and citrus. He drove for Brittan Farms, Ott & Son's and McElhaney Farms. Larry was a hard worker and took pride in whatever he set out to accomplish. He will be deeply missed.
Larry leaves behind daughter, Kerri Comet; grandson, Anthony Comet-Manchado; brother, Terry Comet; nephew, Ron Duffey, and niece Jeneen Comet.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Henrietta Comet; son, Larry Comet II; step-son, Eric Monahan; sisters, Darlene and Julia Comet; brothers, Harry and Raven Comet; nephew, Keith Comet.
Services will be at the Yuma Mortuary, 775 S. 5th Ave, Yuma, AZ on October 3rd, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Tribal Rites will follow at the Quechan Big House from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am.

We would also like to acknowledge nieces and a nephew who were the sparkles in the sky and the laughter in his heart, Alyssa Shepard, Mirannda Tiger- Comet, and Ezekiel Comet.
We would like to send a special Thank You to Yuma VA State Home, Nurses Sherry and Jordan, as well to all the nurses and aids. VA Nurses Nelley, and Dr. Talisa Mills, Aponi Health Care Team, Skinny Minnie, Reshone, Rita, Shama, Angelica, Yuma Medical Transport Team.
