Mary Cady Obituary

Mary Lillian Grace McGill Cady
February 17, 1923 – March 25, 2016

Mary Lillian Grace McGill was born on February 17, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the only child born to Roy and Isabelle (MacLeod) McGill.
Mary was an inspector at Douglas Aircraft prior to joining the US Navy in August 1944. Mary trained at Naval Training Center (WR) at Hunter College in the Bronx, NY, then was stationed at NAS Jacksonville FL where she worked in aircraft assembly. Mary was very proud of her World War II service. Mary was honorably discharged in December 1945 when she became a Navy wife.
Mary met Howard Cady on base at NAS Jacksonville and they were married 28 days later. It was a union that lasted until Howard's death 53 years later. During Howard's 30 years of naval service Mary lived in many Navy towns across the country including Corpus Christi, San Diego, Fallon, Lemoore, Oxnard, and Yuma. She raised four children along the way.
Following Howard's retirement, they took to their motorhome to see parts of the country they had missed including two trips to Alaska. For many years Mary enjoyed cake decorating for friends and school events. Mary was also a prolific oil painter and ceramicist.
In her later years Mary lived in the Lexington Assisted Living Center in Ventura to be close to members of her family. She was always known to say hello to everyone and have a kind word for fellow residents and staff.
Mary is pre-deceased by her son Robert (1950-1962) and husband Howard (1923-1999).
Mary is survived by her children Nancy (Larry) Sillman of La Jolla, Tom (Pam) Cady of Oxnard, and Bill Cady of Yuma; grandchildren Kirstin Cady, Jason Sillman, Jessica (Sillman) Harris, and Sean Cady; great-grandson Luke Harris; niece Terri (Cady)Harris and grand-niece Laura Harris of Oxnard.
Mary's family would like to thank Dr. Robert Oldt, the staff at the Lexington Assisted Living Center and staff from Livingston Visiting Nurse Association for the wonderful care they provided to Mary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Livingston Visiting Nurse Association.
Mary will be interred at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego.
Mary has been entrusted to the care of the family owned and operated Reardon Funeral Home, 511 North A St. Oxnard, www.reardonfh.com (805)487-1720

Sorry to hear about your loss of Mary. She's in God's memory.

Once said, "We are all on the same train in life, but those you have fallen asleep in death are in the sleeper car. They are awaiting to be resurrected to a paradise earth."

May the memories of Mary help you to heal.

Mom (Betty St. John) and I have been reminiscing about Mary, Cady and the kids all week. We had lots of fun together as families, in California, Nevada, and Alaska! She was one hell of a great woman!

My deepest condolences to you both over your mother, Mary. I'm sure she had a good life in California after settling in to Hueneme Bay or wherever place was best for her. She was well cared for. Take Care.
