Peggy Allen Obituary

Peggy Louise Accomazzo Allen

November 17, 1948 November 18, 2021

Peggy Louise Accomazzo Allen was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world peacefully on November 18, 2021, just one day after her 73 rd birthday.

She was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis just under a year ago, and although we lost her too quickly, we will cherish the final days we were able to spend with her at the Yuma Regional Medical Center.

Peggy was born on November 17, 1948 in Phoenix, AZ. She was the middle child to Mark & Betty Accomazzo, growing up alongside her older brother James (Jimmy) and younger sister Anne Marie. She moved from Glendale, AZ in 1953 to their home farm in Laveen, AZ, where she grew up working on the farm. She was active in 4-H and attended Laveen Elementary School. She later graduated from Tolleson High school in 1966, and was involved in Pom Pom and FHA. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Arizona State University in 1970, she went on to teach junior high Home Economics and History at Laveen Elementary School from 1974-1976, and then took time off to raise her treasured children. Later in life, she taught Life Skills at Trevor Browne High School, and worked as University of Arizona Instruction Specialist.

Peggy met Arthur (Art) Allen from Litchfield Park, AZ and was married on June 20th, 1970. They spent 1 years in Coolidge and decided to settle back in Laveen just mile down a dirt road near Peggy's parents. They built their dream home on 2 acres and raised 3 children; Jenny, Karen and Aaron. In 1992, they moved to Yuma, Arizona. Peggy was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, and enjoyed attending many women's Bible studies and volunteering in the church choir.

Peggy was an active member of the communities in which she lived. She was a 4-H leader for 15 years and

served in various roles on the Laveen Community Council, PTA, Phoenix Cotton Women, Laveen Cowbells and the Laveen Lady Lions. She was also deeply involved in the Yuma community, serving as

Yuma County Cotton Women's Secretary, Yuma County Farm Bureau womens committee chairman, YRMC volunteer and Yuma Chapter B-I of PEO sisterhood chaplain.

In addition to her community service, Peggy thoroughly enjoyed cooking and baking, and hosting dinners and events. Her daughters have fond memories of spending countless hours with her in the kitchen throughout their childhood. She also loved music, and passed on her love of oldies to her kids, playing them loudly through the house on Saturday chore day. She was always up for a good hug, a hot cup of coffee and a warm blanket. Her children learned that you never do things half-way and you never quit things you commit to.

Family was the single most important thing to Peggy and she attended every possible event for her children and grandchildren. She made it a priority to attend every wedding, funeral, birthday, graduation, or reunion gathering she could, and cared deeply for all of her family. This was evident to us as we looked around her hospital room that had become decorated with many, many cards and beautiful messages from family and friends. Peggy was blessed to travel on several special trips with her family. She flew to Hawaii for her 35th wedding anniversary, went on an Alaskan Cruise for her 40th anniversary, and spent a memorable family reunion trip to Italy in 2015, just to name a few. Peggy and Art also enjoyed traveling in their motor-home, and spent every September in Wisconsin with daughter Karen and her family until they moved back to Yuma just this past year, which was such a blessing to her.

She was a wonderful and loyal friend to so many. Even in her final days in the hospital she was always thinking of others. She dearly loved her PEO sisters who had become like family to her.

She is survived by her husband, Art, of 51 years; her daughters Jenny Inglett (Kent) and Karen Gill (Brock); son Aaron Allen; and her grandchildren Chris, Nikki and Natalie Inglett; Becca, Robby, Ryan, Gabe and Kate Gill. She is also survived by her sister Anne Marie Moore (Lariat) and many nieces and nephews who love her.

While Peggy's family grieves her loss, they're choosing to remember Peggy in a way that honors her spirit. Her husband Art, and daughters Jenny and Karen, invite friends and family to join them in a Celebration of Life Ceremony to be held after the first of the year.

Reading Peggy's family story brings back memories of Peggy in high school. I was a transfer student from another high school and didn't feel accepted by any of the Jr. High groups that stayed together in high school. It seems I didn't fit in anywhere. Peggy was one of the first students to allow me into her circle. We were both farm kids and understood the balance between chores at home and school activities.
On my 16th birthday, my parents allowed me to have several school friends over to our house. Peggy helped me make baked Alaska for everyone, as that was my birthday cake. I too loved to bake and cook. We were lab partners in Home Economics for the cooking portion of the class. She was outgoing, furiously competitive, warm and likeable. She kept those traits throughout life, it seems. I know she will be missed.

I am so very sorry and shocked to hear of Peggy's passing. Peggy was my college roommate. She and I bonded immediately and enjoyed a long friendship. She and Art visited me a few summers ago in San Diego, at my summer home.
Peggy was a fabulous person, full of vigor and lots of love. I can't believe she is gone. I ma so very, very sad.
