Ronald Dale Campo (Ron)
1952 2022
Ronald Dale Campo (Ron), 69, of Yuma, AZ, passed away peacefully January 5, 2022, due to complications with COVID.
He was a beloved husband,
father, brother, uncle, and Papa and will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
Ron and Merideth, his wife of 40 years, raised their 3 girls on 5-acres in Snohomish, WA where he helped build the family's home with his own two hands. He loved coaching his daughters in softball and enjoyed restoring his 1965 Chevy Impala in his spare time. Ron liked to project a tough exterior and had a good time backing it up on occasion, but to his friends and family, the outer Grizzly bear was just a faade for the teddy bear within.
The love and lessons that he showered his daughters with will live on in them, and in his beloved grandchildren. His work ethic, dedication, and devotion to his family were unmatched. He was a tireless protector and provider, and always put the needs of others above his own. In addition to his family, Ron loved his chair, John Wayne, and the Seahawks.
Ron lived a life guided by the traditional American values of individual liberty, self-determination, and hard work. Over the years he worked as a builder, erecting grain silos, as a blaster in the Wilkeson Sandstone Quarry, as a choker setter and tree planter for Scott Paper in Enumclaw, WA and ultimately settled in to a 22-year career as a heavy equipment operator for King County, WA.
He survived two bouts with cancer in 2009 and 2012. He was so loved by his coworkers in King County that in addition to shaving their own heads in solidarity, many offered their own PTO hours to ensure he could reach retirement with his full pension. He ultimately made a full recovery and retired in 2013. He and wife Merideth moved to Yuma, AZ in 2019 to escape the cold and the rain of Washington, and to ensure that he'd never have to split or haul wood again.
Ron was preceded in death by his sisters Kay Campo Main and Neilla Campo Edgar. He is survived by his wife Merideth; twin-sister Tonya Frick (Ted); brothers Stoney, Jay and Andy Campo; daughters Gillian D'Ancicco, Ronda Russell (Joey), and Lindy Ishimine (Scott); grandchildren Chance, Kayla and Gabe D'Ancicco, Reese and Trip Russell, Koral Ishimine and beloved dog Bernie.
A Memorial Service will be held January 13th at 2:00pm at the Yuma Foothills Assembly of God. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ron's name to the Salvation Army of Yuma, AZ. There is also a Celebration of Life scheduled for April 23, 2022 in Yuma, AZ. Invitations to follow.
