Our beloved mother Sara Ureña Chavoya, 91 years of age, born in Barranca de Santa Clara, Jalisco, Mexico passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2024, in Yuma, Arizona.
She was born to Maria Cedano Ureña and Martín Ureña on January 29, 1933 and was one of 12 children. She married Javier Chavez Chavoya † on September 08, 1957, in Poblado Benito Juarez, B.C., Mexico and had 7 children. They met on a city bus when he offered her his seat, which was the beginning of their life together before moving to Yuma in 1958.
She was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. Our mother showed us the true meaning of unconditional love. Her love, faith and wisdom instilled into our lives, and her impact will be felt for many generations to come. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi, Immaculate Conception church and Campesinos Sin Fronteras, Diabetes support group.
Sara is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Javier Chavez Chavoya and her son, Jaime (Jimmy) Chavoya, sisters, Camerina, Felis, Rita and brothers, Chon, Julian, Jose and Mario.
Sara is survived by her children Maria Chavoya, Ruben Chavoya, Betty Sharp (Gregg), Becky Chavez (Ruben), Veronica Griffin (Daren), Jesse Chavoya (Esther), 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, sisters, Luisa, Vicenta, Clara and brother Rafael, and many nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be at Johnson Mortuary, Friday, October 25th from 4-8 pm. Rosary at 6:00pm 1415 S. 1st Avenue Yuma, Arizona 85364.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26th at 11:00am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 505 S. Avenue B, Yuma, AZ 85364 and burial will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park; arrangements are made by Johnson's Mortuary.
