William Krieger Obituary

William F. "Bill" Krieger, 64, died peacefully at his home on March 28, 2015, after a year long battle with gastro-esophageal cancer. He was born on July 8, 1950, to Robert and Winifred Krieger in Brooklyn, New York.

He attended Purdue University where he met Paulette Sikes. They were married in 1971. Bill earned his PhD in Engineering Science and began working as a structural engineer for Gulf Oil, a company that later merged with Chevron. At the age of 51, Bill retired from engineering, and returned to graduate school, attending seminary at Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California. He was ordained as an Episcopal priest in 2004 and became associate rector of All Saints of the Desert in Sun City, Arizona. In 2008, Bill accepted the position of rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Yuma, Arizona. Bill felt a strong affinity with the Spanish-speaking members of his church. He worked to learn Spanish until he was able to deliver his sermons in Spanish, and he started the first Episcopal Spanish church services in Yuma.

Bill was strong and fearless as he battled cancer. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Paulette; son, James; daughter, Shiloh; cousin, Mary Jane; son-in-law, Joseph; and two grandchildren, Sierra and Bryce William.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Arizona Trail Foundation, www.aztrail.org/memorial_donations.html.

Memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Yuma, Az at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2015.

My condolences to Paulette and family. Your pain is great and no words can ease your grief or your sense of loss. We all yearn for better conditions. God's words at Isaiah 65:17, 21-24 speak of a time in the very near future when all sorrows and pain will vanish from the earth and mankind will live in beautiful and peaceful surroundings with nothing to fear.

Paulette and family,
My memories are savored with a sweet, gentle spirit combined with a caring and loving heart. May God give you peace and comfort, as Bill's earthly journey is complete, and we anticipate a glorious heavenly reunion.

Bill was my great friend. He found a way of living that was good and kind. He was one of the most fully realized people I've ever known -- smart, candid, sensitive, droll, and so gentle. I will always miss him.

To my beloved husband,
So much of what is best in us is bound up in our love of family, and no man loved his family more than you. You worked and saved and sacrificed, setting an example of love through the way you lived and cared for each of us. I miss you with a profound aching deep in my soul. But I take solace in believing there is more to our existence than this life we live now. I love you forever, Paulette~
