Betty Jane Atkinson

CAMBRIDGE: Betty Jane Atkinson, 82, of Cambridge, died Wednesday (November 8, 2017) at Greystone Health & Rehabilitation Center, Cambridge.

She was born August 3, 1935 in Wheeling WV, daughter of the late William Mahoney and Loretta (McGranahan) Mahoney.

Mrs. Atkinson retired from West Muskingum High School, where she had been an English teacher for many years. She was a 1958 graduate of Ohio University.

She enjoyed sailing and painting.

Mrs. Atkinson was a member of the St. Matthew's Episcopal Church of Wheeling WV.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Atkinson, whom she married June 6, 1959; a sister-in-law, Carole Gallagher of Barnesville; two brothers-in-law, Guy J. Atkinson of Massillon and Jack Atkinson of Senecaville; and several nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday (November 10, 2017) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge.

Funeral services will be held Saturday (November 11, 2017) at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church (1025 Steubenville Avenue, Cambridge) with Rev. Mark Seitz officiating.

Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.

As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to one of the following organizations: 1) Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725; or 2) St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 1410 Chapline Street, Wheeling WV 26003.
