Helen Grosshandler

ZANESVILLE: Helen Steinfeld Grosshandler, 88, of Zanesville, peacefully passed away in her sleep at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Emeritus at North Hills, Zanesville. She was born May 10, 1923, in Pueblo, Colorado but moved to Cleveland, Ohio as a baby with her family. Helen was a member of the Beth Abraham Synagogue.

She is survived by her high school sweetheart of 70 years and beloved husband of 66 years, Jerry Grosshandler. Dr. Mark and Rosie Grosshandler, Dr. Dave and Stacey Grosshandler and Mr. Rob and Elaine Joseph are her surviving "diamonds". Her grandchildren are Frank and Dick Joseph, Dr. Josh, Adam and Bree Grosshandler as well as Jennifer, Richard, Jacob and Zachary Grosshandler.

Helen was preceded in passing away by her son, Richard Allen Grosshandler (1969); a granddaughter, Gwen Grosshandler (1983); as well as her 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

No calling hours will be observed. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. today, Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Beth Abraham Jewish Cemetery with Rabbi Jeffrey Elson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your charity of your choice in the name of Helen Grosshandler.

Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville is entrusted with all arrangements.

I visited Pat Floods often with my parents as a child. I would get bored, and Helen would give me a pen and tablet and allow me to go around to customers and take their order. She was a great lady, and Jerry, real sweet, too.
