My thoughts and prayers to you Max and your family...

My name is Jeff Harris. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Dr. Javad Habibi family. I was a student of his at Muskingum College from 1988-1990. He was my favorite professor, and his passion for mathematics and education was unmatched. He always said to his students..."Mathematics Is Beautiful!" Every Friday, he always encouraged us to sit down under a tree with a nice glass of lemonade (insisting we drink nothing stronger) and work on mathematics..."you must practice" he always said to us. He was passionate about Mathematics, and loved what he did, and it showed every day in class. For example, I remember staying up for over 50 straight hours on a weekend working on 28 pages of math problems that Dr. Habibi assigned to us on a Friday with a buddy of mine. On Monday, a few girls were crying (actual tears crying) about how difficult the work was, and many others were angered as well. One complaint turned into another, and then more tears from a few others. While in tears, and looking ever so pathetic, but emboldened by lack of sleep, one of the girls asked him-how will all of this work be graded? His quick answer, and showing no sympathy whatsoever to what he was witnessing....."no no no, it won't be graded.....that was just practice." Classic! We lost a great man and a great mind.
