Marion Eugene Cecil

NEWARK: A funeral service for Marion Eugene Cecil, age 84, of Newark, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 26, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Private inurnment will take place at a later date in Cedar Hill Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Mr. Cecil passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). He was born September 2, 1927 in Haverhill, Ohio to the late John C. and Jesse (Gentil) Cecil.

Mr. Cecil was a graduate of Logan High School and was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was employed as a small engine specialist. A member of the Newark Eagles #387 and the VFW, he enjoyed fishing and driving stock cars and was an avid NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley A. (Fletcher) Cecil, whom he married June 15, 1952; son, William Edward (Pamela J. ) Cecil of Newark; daughter-in-law, Geneveva E. "Lucy" Cecil of Marshfield, Wisconsin; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Eugene Cecil; three brothers, Clarence C. Cecil, Joseph Edwin Cecil and James Adrian Cecil; three sisters, Leona Bell Smith, Nellie Louise Fraizer and Dorothy Elizabeth Stevens.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, September 26, at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
