Mary Beattey Obituary

NEWARK: A funeral service for Mary E. Beattey, 90, of Newark, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Rev. Barbara Sholis officiating. A graveside service will follow in Mt. Ephraim Cemetery, in Ephraim, Ohio at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Tom Gruver officiating.
Mrs. Beattey passed away at her residence. She was born March 13, 1920, in Caldwell, Ohio, to the late Andrew Jackson and Hannah Elizabeth (Harmon) Betts.
She was a school teacher for McGuffey Elementary from 1974-1987. From 1954-1968 she was a secretary for Kaiser Aluminum. She attended the First United Methodist Church. As a young woman she worked for an insurance company, Aid for the Aged, and the Caldwell Journal. In her retirement years she was always pleased to have the occasion to see a former student or their parents.
She is survived by her son, Alan Beattey of New Castle, Indiana; sister-in-law, Ina Betts of Fairborn, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Jane Beattey of Columbus, Elaine Birk of Medway, Ohio, Ruth Scott of Dayton, Ohio, and Paul (Belinda) Grimes of Walton, Kentucky; and various great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Beattey, whom she married on December 6, 1942; sister, Helen Grimes; and brother, Howard Betts.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church, 148 High St., Senecaville, Ohio 43780.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark.
