Rita Shrider Obituary

Rita Kay Shrider

Marietta: Age 68, passed away after a year-long battle against a debilitating lung disease on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, surrounded by and embraced by the loving arms of her husband and two devoted daughters at the O.S.U. Medical Center. She was born February 14, 1949, a valentine baby, in Zanesville, OH, to the late John Jacob and Marcella Mae Vansickle Dupler.

She started her working career at State Farm Insurance in Newark, OH, before moving on to Remington Rand, Union Carbide and later serving as executive secretary to each of the superintendents of the Washington County Career Center. She was active in the O'Neill Senior Center and served as a mainstay in the Mid-Ohio Valley Steam and Antique Power Club Auxiliary for 19 years. She was a dedicated member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, where she participated in the Women's Church Circle, quilters, the Giveaway Day, visited shut-ins, the book club, taught Sunday School, assisted with vacation bible school, helped with the blood drive and started the Care Package Project in 1994.

Rita is survived by her husband of 48 years, Randy, whom she married June 7, 1969, at Somerset United Methodist Church; two daughters, Stephanie Shrider of Williamstown, WV; Stacia Shrider (fiance Adam Rosen) of Brentwood, MO; sisters, Nancy McCabe of Zanesville, OH, Judy Howdyshell (Larry) of Bremen, OH; brother, John Dupler (Jonathan Davis) of Cape Coral, FL; sisters-in-law, Rita McIntyre (Phil) of Mt. Perry, OH, Rayna Williams (Terry) of Hamilton, OH; brother-in-law, Ron Shrider (Candace) of New Concord, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rita will be remembered fondly by her family and friends for her warm, kind, and generous heart, her smile, her loving embrace of everyone, her constant and enthusiastic support of her family's endeavors and activities, her 17 years of baking for the basketball teams and her signature phrase, "It's a great day to be alive!"

Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 401 Scammel St, Marietta, with Rev. Steve Mahaffey officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Friday, October 20, at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, and again from 10 AM until time of service at the church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Care Package Fund at St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
